Default its melting :(

I have a 1995 400 scrambler 4x4 and its winter time now, when i take it out and ride it for about 10 minutes the pipe heats up so much it melts the plastic in the midle were it protects your leg. I checked if theres a hole in my pipe and checked maybe theres something plugging it but nothing in that department.

can anyone help me thanks

Did you rejet and turn the air screw in for winter. If not you wimelt more than just your heatshield. You need to rejet bigger, turn the airscrew in. Sounds like you are way lean for the pipe to get that hot. Also move your needle clip down one knotch. It needs to be more rich than lean. You can also buy some heat tape and put it on the underside of the plastic to help with heat dispersion. This will keep it from future melting.
