From what I have researched ( I've been in a simialr situation) the 90 polaris are made by the same manufacturer as the 90 arctic cat and bombardier. From what I have gathered these machines are good but not great. I would also consider the Yamaha breeze 120cc (its a little bigger but your nine year old should be able to shift his weight quite easily on it.)

get the yamaha breeze for your boy and he will get years of enjoyment out of it.
iv'e already been thru the 2 stroke 90cc thing they eat gas like crazy on the trail
and don't hold up very well the breeze is 125cc four stroke auto with reverse it only
goes about 2 miles an hour in reverse great kids machine my 9 yr. old and 11 yr. old
love it. and for the sportsman it's one of the best out there.

I have a 2001 500 HO and would not have any other type of bike. My son has a 2001 SP-90 and he loves it. Since he is 5 1/2 years old I like the fact that I can govern the thumb throttle down to a safe speed for him. I also like that it is an injectable oil system so I do not have to mix gas and oil.
Good Luck

I just got back from taking a look at the Yamaha Breeze..... not a bad ATV. Might give my son longer to ride it before he grows out of it. The guy at the dealership backed off when he found out my son was under 16......... man those safety laws are STUPID. Looks like I'll probably stick with the SP 90.

Tell the dealer he is just small for his age. Most dealers I have delt with dont really care about the recomended age as long as your check is good. But you do have to sign a paper saying that it is not for use by anyone under 16.It didnt bother me one bit to sign it hey the government liesto me all the time .......whats the differance?

Scooksey.........The full size 500 HO is a good machine..........I would stay away from the 90cc products.......They are made in Taiwan and not of the best quality.......My first quad was a 500 Scrambler and I bought my 10 year old son a Honda 90....Sold it a year later for $100. more than I paid for it.....Thats the direction I would go again if I was in your shoes.
