fuel injection on pred
#1
Ever wonder what fuel injection could do to a pred. wonder if it's possible to retrofit something that's already out their. Give me your thoughts, and what if any advantage would their be. Guess I figure if fuel injection can on the cannondale can blow away the z400 so easily, what would, could it do to the pred.

I think it would make it run a lot smoother and if it had efi jetting would be long gone. I think it would give other quads such as the Raptor and Cannondale and DS650 a real good run for their money. Don't get me wrong Predators are fast.

With all the emissions laws coming around in the next three to four years, I think we are going to see quite a few fuel injected quads coming out.
Honda is always reinventing the wheel. Not many can argue with me on that. It wouldnt surprise me in the least if Honda's new big sport quad has the 600cc, fuel injected "Silverwing Scooter" powerplant in it.

www.optimum-power.com has a fuel injection kit for the yzf426 motor. I bet if they had enough demand they would start making them for other engines.

I know way to little about this to come up with any kind of constuctive suggestion. If anybody does know I would love to be educated about this.

Can it be done - yes... Not worth the trouble.
EFI and a properly tuned carb will produce the same HP.
It's not the EFI that makes the C-Dale fast, it's the cams, compression, and bore/stroke combo...
EFI makes excellent economy and drive/ridability - but also limits you on modifications unless you want to spend a lot on various size injectors. There will also be a steep learning curve on tuning. With EFI it's not quite as easy as telling the computer you want more fuel - the injectors have to be large enough to pass it. However, they also have to be small enough to not cause idle problems, as very short pulsewidths also cause problems.
So, what it boils down to is it will be an expensive, complex, and likely troublesome process that significantly complicates things. My suggestion - buy a good carb to replace the CV garbage the Predator comes with and be done with it.
(and all this coming from a guy that's went to great lengths to convert two of his carb'd vehicles to EFI & loves the results)

1986atc250r,
Well said. The same motor does not gain any WOT Horsepower with the addition of fuel imjection. It will gain drivability and fuel efficiency, but not horsepower. It will add a lot to the price of the new quads though.
Probably going to see them fairly common in the near future.
Ten years ago you could double the HP of your 2 stroke quad for about $600.
In a couple years it'll cost us $4000 for a 50% increase in HP. This is progress
