The states would not have to change a thing. Instead of registering it as an ATV you would be required to register it as an ORV. In MN they already have a registration process set up specially for ORV's...so the state would get its money either way. In fact they get more money...the ORV registration fee is $33.50 compared to only $21.50 for an ATV. Also, ORV's are banned from some ATV-only trails. So even if they did market it to resemble a quad it would be illegal for use on the ATV trails. Now in some states, like colorado, ORV and ATV trails mesh a lot of the time, so this would not be as much of a problem. Others states however, like MN, only have a limited number of ORV trails so owners of such vehicles would be very limited. Bottom Line: It would not be very easy for the manufacturers to market a product where things are so restrictive.

can you imagine what a Sportsman700 weighing-in at 600lbs would be like?....FANTASTIC!

we don't need a 800lb ATV..... that would be no fun!........especially when it flips on top of you!....OUCH!

The sp700 wet weight is already real close to 800 lbs. The WET weight of the machine is what you really have to go by. According to the March 03 edition of ATV Magazine, the wet weight of the sp 700 is 788 lbs. They weighed the machines on Intercomp scales, supposedly the same scales that NASCAR use. The Bombardier Quest 650 was also 788lbs., the Honda Rincon 650 was 641 lbs., Kawasaki Prairie 650 was 651 lbs,. and the Yamaha Grizzly 660 was 641 lbs. When the sp700 lands on top of you it actually feels more like 1788 lbs.
