I think you answered your own question the belt is thicker so the clutch is grabbing the belt at idle . you could lower you the idle or the belt might wear down so it does't engage early. The third option is to buy a stock belt or one with same dimenions as stock.

The original blet was worn down some, so that would help the problem. Different belts from different castings have different lengths too. It might not be much, but enough to cause the problem. That is why the secondary clutch is adjustable. You need to check belt deflection and probably add a shim to the secondary.Bubba

Default polaris belt please help

Don't worry its just the powerstreak belts they fit a little tighter than the polaris ones it is normal mine did this for about a few hours of hard ridin but it will break in just fine.
you should use an agressive clutch kit with this belt because it is a harder compound.......

Hope this helps

It is hard to put in neutral because your secondary is turning faster than it normally does to shift. Adding the shim should take care of the problem. It is normal for some bikes to creep after a new belt. It is a good belt and what you have is not a problem, but it is an adjustment that you have to make.

Just a thin metal shim that goes between the secondary sheave halves. As you add or remove them, it changes how far the belt rides in or out and changes the deflection.BUbba

I bought an aftermarket belt for my scrambler and it did the same thing as yours. I took it back and bought a polaris belt, fit perfect. Some things ya just gotta get from the dealer.
