700 Twin Lift Kit

I did the high lifter kit last year on my 02 700sp. I did it myself in about 2 hours. It would have been quicker but I screwed up and let a CV slip out. Multiple times in the directions it warns you not to let it slip out. So, I did, and it took me a long time fiddling with it before the splines lined up and it went back in. If you've got a minimum of mechanical ability don't be afraid to do it yourself. Dealers get a ton of money to install them, I did my own winch, too. Anyway, from what I can remember you unbolt the rear torsion bar, remove the two threaded tubes and replace with longer ones, then replace the torsion bar brackets with new pair. Only real work to the back was drilling a hole in frame each side. In front, take off wheels, unbolt top of strut (spring) take out ball joint and this is where you have to be careful. If you hyperextend the outer CV the shaft will come out of the hub, and because of the sealed boot you won't be able to see how to get it back in. A free hand to support the strut housing is helpful. Take the spring out of the strut housing, drop one spacer in the housing, another on the top of the housing, put spring back in and shove it back in the hole, bolt it back up and you're pretty much done. Oh, wait I forgot an important part. You need a grinder for this. After you take the spring out, you have to grind away some material on the strut housing at the inside bottom so that the CV will clear when you turn it. The instructions that come with the kit are very good, it tells you where to grind. make sure you grind off enough because you don't want it to bind up under a load. Hope this helps, its been a while since I did it, so I may have forgotten something. If you get a highlifter kit, the instructions are good. I can't speak for the other kinds. You can get the kit at the dealer or at highlifter.com. I just ordered 28" mud lites from them.

I just talked to my dealer today, he said they have put some 589s in 28-9x12 on the front and 28-11x12 on the rear on stock rims on the 700s. The lift everyone is doing around here is to extend the strut 1 inch out of the strut housing, and put two 2 inch split set collars under the spring. I have done this but noticed the front axle cv boot will contact the strut housing a little when turning the wheels sharp and when the a-arm drops down. The highlifter installation instructions on their website shows them grinding some off the strut housing to prevent this. I may try this tomorrow.

When you installed the highlifter kit, according to their installation instructions on their website, you removed the strut from the housing and put a 1 inch spacer in the strut housing and reinstall the strut, this effectively extends the strut out the thickness of the spacer. We are just loosening the pinch bolts and pulling the strut out exactly one inch and re-tightening the pinch bolts then put the set collars under the spring. By using the 2 piece split set collars you can do this without removing the strut and strut spring. It effectively does about the same thing as the highlifter kit for the front, you just don't have the spacer in the bottom of the strut housing and don't have to remove the spring. You still have the same problem of the cv boot hitting the strut housing just like the highlifter kit, so it looks like grinder time!
