Default Are Some Polaris's Junk?

Some of my friends ride polaris's. Every single one are 98 or newer, And they all run terrible and break down all the time, they have been matained well but 2 of them wont even run with the air filter, airbox top or breather tube on, the started constantly stop working, the shifters stop working, and other things just up and break. From all ive seen it has lead me to belive that some of polaris's stuff is just plain junk.......

Would anybody care to agree or disagree?

my freind has a polaris SP 500. I dont personally own a Polaris so I have to use his as a reference.

He has it about 2 years now and has burned up 3 belts, probably operator error as others have posted here.

The response in warranty has been outstanding (the belt is covered for lifetime, at least that's what he says.) he has had no other issues with the bike. It's a great performer and pretty fun to ride.

I dont know your friend's, how well they maintain or abuse their bikes so it's pretty tough to say if their experience speaks for all Polaris' products. If you go to other boards you'll see as many if not more issues with Hondas, Suzukis etc.

The above is the long and courteous way of saying "No they are not all junk" But I think you already knew that.

I had a 99 Polaris Sport. I kept up on the maintenece (cleaning and lubing after each ride), and never had a single problem with it. My buddy had a 97 Sport, kept it cleaned and lubed, never had a problem with it. Another buddy had a 95 Polaris, don't know the exact model off hand, no problems. Another buddy had a 2001 Trailboss, and a 2001 Xplorer 250, and has experienced a couple downfalls. I would be hardpressed to make a blanket statement such as "all Polaris are junk".

I ride with a large group of guys, and the only quads I can honestly say have never suffered a problem, are three Suzuki utilities. They are Quad Monsters, or Quad Runners, or Quad Masters, something to that affect. These three quads just will not break down. Will this make me go buy a Suzuki? No way. These are the most ill handling, uncomfortable machines I have ever ridden. But, the owners love them, and swear by them, not at them, so we are all happy for them.

Dang that hurt! I hope you know him. As everyone knows we have a bunch of them and other than the usual maintenence they are trouble free and have never left us stranded.

I have 2, 2001 Trailboss 325’s. They both have junk chains and shocks. I maintain my equipment, they get washed and lubed after every ride. The 1st chain caused the front sprocket to wear out in about 6 months and the second one did the same thing but it took 11 months to go bad. Both machines have blown the rear shocks in less than a year. If I was to buy two more quads of this type it would not be Polaris. As for the to 90 cc Polaris machines they are not made by Polaris but have the same chain issues. I had a 1985 Honda 200X that I sold last year and never put a chain or sprockets on it the whole time I had it. Now I have a Z400 for about 9 months and no sign of excessive wear on it. Polaris also has rotten technical support, parts listed on there website they do not even know what they fit, I called the dealer and 2 calls to Polaris to find out and they still were not sure.

Freakazoid how can you say that Polaris is junk when the chain sprockets and shocks go bad. I could be wrong but I don't think Polaris makes any of those items. Thats like saying that Chevy is junk because they use goodyear tires. I didn't see that you had any other problems than wear and tear items. Somewhere on the forum I saw a saying "You buy'em You ride'em You break'em You fix'em what's the problem" something like that. I have rode many machines and I can say that all of them break down I don't care what anyone says. The thing a person needs to do is ride all of them and pick out the one they like the most and ride it like ya stole it. Sorry got off track. I've got a 01 sp500 and I have not had any problems other than self inflicted wounds. (Flipped over backwards 3 days after I bought it)
