No it isn't warranty.

It's aftermarket.

Rob4092,

The CDI box I'm looking into IS NOT a stock Polaris item. When I know more about the availablity and fitment, I will post the info...right now it's just research and data exchanging...I will let everyone know the results...when I have some sure info.

As to it being a Polaris warranty item, well I seriously doubt it. Lets see how they handle the warranty issues on the cracked heads that they knew about on the early issue Predators. Gary said on the S/B message board that Polaris was fixing the problem with the shifter hitting the frame. When I asked if I should wait before griding the thing, in case Polaris might warranty the item since they realized it is a problem, he told me to "Grind away!" Then there is the dragging from t brake issues, and the seat gouging the air box lid issue, none of which have had good responses from Polaris, at least in my view. So far, not very promising.

Apparently Polaris is very well aware of the cracked head problem, and has not yet notified owners which it may involve. Instead, they choose to wait till each individual quad involved has the head crack, and then deal with it. I hope I'm not out in the middle of nowhere and my head cracks. I will definately deal with something like that in the legal arena...As I said once before about Polaris, I expect much more from them, as they are an American company, one of the big reasons I bought this quad.

Anyway,

That's all I have to say about that....

Default How to eliminate Rev Limiter on Predator?

Hi everyone,

It seems like I'm on a soapbox here about this popping and rev limiter issue, but I feel very strongly that the issue is far from over and done. I am wondering if some owners are just more '4-stroke savvy' than many of us who have the popping problem. Maybe just because I am so used to being able to rev the crap out of an atv engine, I'm just plain over-revving to try and get the most out of this motor?!?

I did do a little more research on all the available dyno charts I could find for this motor, and they are all consistent in ONE MAJOR AREA.....they all start to drop off power and torque production after about 8000 rpm +/-. Maybe this motor is capable of more power in the 8000-9000+ rpm range, but it sure looks like it is not getting it with the current cams, CDI, jetting, etc. Maybe us poor unfortunates who are having popping need to learn, or re-learn, how to shift these machines.

I'm still waiting for my tach to arrive, and once mounted, I am going to very carefully document all the popping episodes I encounter, and try to accurately report on this issue. If it is a jetting issue, then I know I, and perhaps a lot of others, still have work to do. If it is just the factory set rev limiter, I will re-evaluate my riding techniques.

Good luck to all,

JJ

Just my two-cents on these issues. (I have a tach on my machine and it hits rev'limiter at about 7,800-8000. Pretty sure the tach is correct. Not too worried though. Would be curious to see an adjustable limiter.) First, the shifter hitting the frame. It can be adjusted so this doesn't happen. It's also aluminum and I'm sure that there is SOME play in the transmission (so that it shifts smoothly) and that would translate into a few thousandths of extra travel in the shifter. Not a big deal. Just adjust it up a bit. As for the dragging brakes thing. Has anyone ever been in an ATV or motorcycle shop and spun the front tires on anything? They ALL drag a little. Drive the machine a few times, this is gone. This isn't just a Predator thing. Mine spin just fine and drug a little when came out of the crate. The airbox lid can be a ligitimate problem. I've noticed mine hitting slightly but not to the point of ruining anything. Polaris may or may not deem this a serious problem. If your lid has serious damage due to the seat I'm sure Polaris will warranty them within the warranty period. One more thing (and I have done this also, but know full well the consequences) when you do anything but put gas and oil in your machine, etc. MODIFY, this voids warranty. Your slip on K&N, voids warranty. The White Brothers pipe, voids warranty. We do these things to enhance performance and have more fun, but don't scream warranty when it's not Polaris's fault. I own a TLD Predator and have no complaints. I guess some things don't bother me as much as some people. I'm having fun!

-2003 TLD Predator
-K&N Filter
-White Brothers pipe
-Nerf bars
-Moose Flex Bars
-ITP 18's (rear)
-Rear aluminum grab bar
-Digitron tach
-Custom dash
-Full tank of gas

Ummm..i beleive the stock rev limiter is set around 8750 or somthing like that..and i cant see the WB pipe that polaris sells, voiding the warrenty..

HERE..buy this pipe..if your bike breaks because of it..your screwed, but hey..it'll make you sound better while its running!!

Where is everyone finding the rev'limit number? It's not in the service manual that I can see. I've seen these dyno reports posted but find it hard to believe this thing spins up to 9000rpm. It doesn't sound like a dime over 8000. Just curious. As for the pipe issue, it is a performance add on, so that means it will void warranty. I've got one on mine (pipe), don't get me wrong, I'm just stating the truth.

In the service manual it clear says that a Predator rev's to 9005 rpm however the timing is retarded a few degree's at 8500 rpm.

This motor can rev up to 10,000 rpms and still work fine all day long and the aftermarket companys will give us a CDI in a few months.

The WhiteBros (PurePolaris) Pipe will not void the warranty.
