How to eliminate Rev Limiter on Predator?
Hi Expert140,
Interesting viewpoints. I certainly hope that Polaris understands that most of us out here, including me, are not drawing lines against them. I specifically bought this quad because I felt it was a good AMERICAN effort into the performance end of this industry. I have my opinions and feelings about many of the problems that have been descirbed by many owners on many forums and message boards. But I am not looking for a short term battle or a long term war with Polaris over warranty or performance issues.
I just hope that Polaris realizes that they do, at the very least, need to be accountable for legitimate questions we owners have about problems. If they were to offer no cost upgrades on items that are determined to be flawed, it would go a long way to putting them even further ahead of the Yamaha mentality that continues to ignore and deny that major problems exist in one of their product lines, such as the exploding Raptor trannies.
Polaris Industries arranged for the sole marketing rights to the White Brothers pipe, and I have only seen their authorized dealers and Pure Polaris on-line store selling it. Since I did not sign any waiver or release when I bought the bike, and my dealer had already installed the pipe before it was delivered to me, there is no legal recourse they have to deny me, or you, warranty coverage because of the pipe. Yes, I may have other warranty issues over other mods I have done, which I accept. I was very upset when the calls I made to Polaris regarding technical and/or warranty questions were abruptly referred back to my local dealer. He then calls back to the Dealer warranty line, and tells me he still has not gotten a response from Polaris....and so the circle begins. I am not trying to be jerk, to make unnecessary problems, or to trash the product...and I DO OWN a Predator, unlike some who have Predator envy and are posting crap on the various forums.
I just don't see how Polaris could not offer some enhancements to owners when they have determined there is a problem or defect in a designed item. It would not cost them millions of dollars, and would be worth more than milions to them in public relations. I really don't see how they would not, in good conscience, notify the owners who may have a potential major problem like a head crack, ahead of time. They know the vin #'s of the quads they sold, and where those quads area located. If it was your quad that blew a head and stranded you 25 miles in the desert, how would you feel about that?
Anyway, thanks for your response about the rev limiter. If yours is hitting there, it does seem a bit early. I also understand it is supposed to be at about 8800 rpm. When yours hits the limiter, what does it do, pop and cut out, or just go flat and not run?
My tach just came in and I will fit it on tonight. I hope to have an update by Friday.
Take care all,
JJ

Scotts88,
The data about the cracked head came off PredatorOwners.com. The info seems pretty straightforward, and does not appear to be a bogus thread. I admit that I did not do an extensive investigation into the thread or the data, but it does appear legit. The owner is very down due to the problem, as he was jut getting his quad all dialed in at the time. It started out as a slight weeping of cooalnt ou tof hte drip hole jsut below the coolant inlet on the left (shifter) side of hte engine. check out the postings, very interesting, and very worth monitoring for end result.
I bought an autometer tach designed especially for motorcycles. It is the same tach that is used on the DS-650 Baja. It's kinda large, but very high quality, and I want to be able to see the face clearly. It came with a handlebar mount that appears to fit belown the bar clamp bolt. It has a 0-10,000 rpm face. Very nice...I'll post a photo on my gallery when I have it mounted later tonight.

Guys (and gals) I'm not trying to be rude when I say this, only realistic. The machine comes out of the crate in stock form. ANYTHING you change (parts, pieces) is considered modified. you have to agree on that. Pipes included. Now I know most dealers are ok with the idea that the pipe is a "Polaris" pipe and that they will help you out in the event something goes wrong. Bear in mind though that adding a pipe (any pipe) is a modification to what came out of the crate. And this can void warranty. (Back pages of owners manual) Polaris will probably take care of us for the initial 6 month warranty, but after that I'm sure they'll say otherwise. And this is not their fault. They give ample time for warranty (I wish it was a year too but oh well) and we all know what kind of enviroment these machine live in. Yes I think Polaris could do better sometimes, but the other brands are no better or worse. I own one too, and the thing runs just fine out of the crate. Yes it could be better (as all things could be), but this requires modification (as does anything else). I have no complaints with mine. Although my tach must not be calibrated right. Damn aftermarket mods...

Have you checked the plug after you run it starts popping, try this: Run it until it starts popping then pull in the clutch cut the engine and roll to a stop. Then check the plug and see what it looks like, then turn the quad back on and idle it for a few minutes, check the plug. Sounds like u run lean on the top end and might be jetted ok on the bottom end, Move the clip on the needle up a notch if it is lean on the high RPM's and see if adjusting the needdle works out for you
