Default 400L Drainplug?

Well guess what i just split my cases and there is a drain for the crank case. There is one for the recoil housing, one for the counterbalancer, and there is also one for the crankcase.Mine is a 96 ,don't know if it's any different on other models.Just thought i would let everyone know.Later.

Default 400L Drainplug?

CED,
On my 95 Xplorer, I do have a motor drain...All I said was that after all these years of riding that 95 Xplorer and annually draining, I have never gotton anything out of that drain hole, but a few drops, of gas-smelling oil.

There are (3) plugs- counter balance / recoil / and motor case.

Default 400L Drainplug?

Yes there is a crankcase drainplug, it is above the starter. It should probably never have to be used though unless it gets submerged in water or something. I have a Hayne's repair manual that gives maintenance intervals, it shows the plug location, but says nothing about regular maintenance required for draining the case. The gas and oil mixture have to go into the crankcase to lubricate the crankshaft bearings and the connecting rod lower end bearing. I would think the only time wash would be a problem if there was an overly rich condition, the fuel petcock left on for periods of time, especially during transporting, or oil pump way out of adjustment. Since your model is a 97 it was due for a bottom end rebuild anyway. As long as the motor is revved a few times at start up to create enough vacuum to pull the oil and gas lying in the crankcases out, there should never be a problem with that area except for normal wearing.
