Default Racing a Grizz

Has anyone raced a new Grizz with their SP600? I am just curious how close they are. I have a friend that just bought a new Grizz and he thinks it is so bad, I just wanted to know if I could beat him before I show him which 4x4 is the best (we all know Polaris). Also how do the two compare in the hills?

I know that you are probably looking for other Polaris owners to answer this, but I am very familiar with both quads, Grizzly 660 and Sp700. My riding partner rides a SP700, and I of course have the Grizzly 660. We go everywhere together and I have ridden his 700 often. The Polaris is a good machine and can go anywhere that I can. But when it comes to racing, he cannot keep up. This is not meant to slam the SP700; it is just not set up for speed, or to be very quick. It is however a great 4x4 and an extreme work machine.

Sport ATV magazine did a very comprehensive shoot out of all the big 4x4 last year, which included putting all of the machines on a Dyno. The 700 dyno'ed at 30 hp at the rear wheels, and the Grizzly dyno'ed at 29.8 hp at the rear wheels. Now factor in the 140 + lb weight difference and it is easy to see which one will be quicker.

Your 600 weighs the same as the 700, but with less power, so I would imagine that the results will favor the Grizzly 660 even more. Again, this is in no way a knock against the Polaris 600/700; they are just set up for work more than speed. The Grizzly might out accelerate your Sp600, but ask your buddy if he wants to hook up and see who can pull more. I bet you would probably when that one.

I don't know about the 600 or 700, but my stock 500HO is a match for the Grizzly.
Stock 2002 machines. Repeated drag races. In 2 or 4 wheel drive. Same result every time.
Neither machine gets ahead by more than a length up to top speed, then the grizzly slowwwly inches away with a hair more top speed.
I was suprised the 500 matched the bigger Yamaha. I'm guessing the 600 or 700 should walk away from the Grizz cleanly.

I kind of figured the sportsman would be a little slower in racing, but how does it handle compaired to the Grizz? I didn't even look at the Grizz when I bought my bike because I was sold on the sportsman due to the fact that my 500 HO is awesome! Plus I like the option of having 3 lights instead of two, and it seems the ride is a little smoother, which doesn't make much of a difference on short rides, but I do a lot of riding on trails that exceed 75 miles round trip, so the cushy seat and nice suspension was a must.
