Predator break in
#1
Can anyone give me tips on breaking in the predator? Should I use motol 3000 10/40 to break it in? How long 2 tanks of gas? Break it in like you ride it? (high rpm) Just looking for advice..
Thanks,
Jeff

Here is a quote from Gary at www.esuperbikeshop.com
***with todays new "coated" cylinders like the predators, you must be careful on break in procedure. the coating on the cylinder has a somewhat harsh surface that can actualy burnish the rings & not let them seal properly. we have seen it a lot on yamaha, & suzuki sport bikes. guys dont have mercy on the new engine & the engines dont breakin proper & have blow by & oil consumption. these days pistons have low tension rings & they can be damaged by being a little hard with the throttle. the cross hatch pattern on the cylinder is a little rough, & very hard, this combined with lack of careful breakin can severly effect the life & function of the rings. the best way to break in an engine is not to lug it, or over rev it-but take it up to 3/4 throttle in say 4th gear down a nice straight away, then let it come down from that rpm with out puliing in the clutch-this lets the engine still maintain a steady decline in the rpm's, without a load on the engine & oil is being pumped everywhere. this is also good for the valves & camshaft-do this for 1/2 hour let her cool down & then take it easy in a similar manner for 2 tanks of fuel-change your oil after the 1st tank, & change it every other ride & clean your airfilter EVERY ride.***

Thanks for that Tldpredator. Also, what do people recommend for oil during and after the break in. I have heard to use motol 3000 10/40 for break in then change to maxima 5w30 after break in. Or should I use the ps4 like the manual says?
Thanks again,
Jeff

I broke mine in with the oil it came with then changed it out with Polaris PS4.
I'll tell you one thing, it's very hard not to just gun it and see what it can do as soon as you get it!!!
Some say the Oil it comes with is different for break-in then the PS4 you swap it with. That is all hearsay though.
