can anyone help me with getting the carb off?

If nothing happened, you should be ok. If it got better slightly, then you need to raise the main jet. If nothing at all happened, then you should be ok. The choke will richen the carb and if you are lean it gets better and if you are rich gets worse, so if nothing happened, then I would say you are ideal, but if you want to be on the safe side, you could go up with the main and it wouldn't hurt anything as you added gas with the choke and nothing happened, so.... I cannot help you with the carb, I am not familiar with the magnum. Maybe ftwflh can help.
