The only way a sp400 will do 60 is if your being pushed down the hill by somethin abit more powerful, i have two and i got one up to 60 once, only because i was going straight down a hill!

Polaris never made an HO in 2000, They did not start selling them on the market until 2001 which you can tell by the HO sticker, No sticker No HO.

I agree with you scrambled6910. If people would look at the weights not just how many cc's they have, they would see the whole picture. The wolverines dry weight is only 485 lbs. while the SP500's dry weight is 697lbs. Yes the sportsman has a definite cc advantage but it also weighs a heck of a lot more than the wolverine. Another thing is that the sportsman isn't even in the same class as the wolverine so why is he making a big deal about it. If you think about it if the SP500 only weighed 600 lbs, it would be a lot faster, probably faster than a Grizzly 660. Note, I am not trying to be mean to the Grizzly 660 at all. I'm just stating if the SP500 weighed only 600 lbs it would be a lot faster.

I would go for the Sportsman 600, of course I'm biased because I own one. The 700 is an excellent atv, and so is the 500, but, I rode both and couldn't tell very much difference at all, (I'm talking about the 600 and 700) plus the 700 is about 500 bucks higher. I'm sure that the 700 has more torque since it has the larger engine. I have about 100 miles on mine and it has performed flawlessly. Every time we go riding the Honda guys want to ride it and I can't get them off of it. Check out the article in the june edition of ATV Action magazine. They do a pretty good job of describing the 600.
Whichever one you choose you will have a good atv, they all three are excellent atv's.

My buddy just got 2003 Grizz 660. I have a 500 RSE. Dirt road, both in 4 wheel drive. Beat him off the line for about 10 feet then bye bye Remington. Then he went up against Chris,s 2001 sportsman 500 HO. same dirt road both in 4 wheel drive., and got the paws burned
off the Grizz. Too many excuses from my buddy to mention, and he still can't get over it

Yamahas are not sufficiently waterproofed. I have seen it over and over, with Grizzlies and Kodiaks and even a Warrior. They will not stand up to the wet conditions that my Polaris thrives in. I have competed in mud bogs, and done a whole lot of stream crossing and mudding, and only one time did my 700 even sputter, and that was with everything but the handlebars and the front rack under water. Started right back up and winched myself out. I think it was only from putting the pipe under for too long, because I had no water in the airbox or anywhere else. I saw a brand new Grizzly take on water where my Scrambler and Trailboss (2wd!) both made it through. My inlaws brand new Kodiak just went back to the shop with a clutch full of dirty water, and they are older and don't ride crazy. I love Yamaha machines, and if I lived in the desert where theres no chance of getting it wet, then maybe I'd consider buying one.
Oh, to answer your question, buy the 500 ho. Best machine on the market, when everything is considered.
