4 Cycle Oil
#1
I have been using the Polaris 4 cycle oil and oil filter and I am getting tired of paying through rear for the "recommended" oil. Since I have just bought my wife a 2000 trail boss, this costs is going to double. On a previous post, I seen the oil filter post on using a Duestch oil filter. I would like to know what kind of oil everybody is putting in there machines (include brand and weight). I was thinking of using Mobil 1 synthetic. The Polaris oil is 0W40. Does Mobil 1 make this in synthetic or should I go with 5W30 or 10W40?

I bought a semi-synthetic 0W-40 oil made here in Canada, but I am sure a Mobil one would be okay. The 40 is for high heat protection, the 0W is for the extreme cold condititions. I've started my SP 500 on -20 degree mornings, no problem. But after the whack of problems I had due to extreme cold weather, I think I'll get a sled in the fall.

I use 20w/50 castrol 4 stroke oil in my Scrambler 500 and a fram filter #6607 I think. If you want one they are just as or better than the polaris and are only 3 or 4 dollars canadian.
As far as oil goes you should choose one with not such a big gap in the #'s.
By the way I only run 20w/50 in the spring summer and fall.
