WB vs HMF comparision
#1
Well I got to try out my new HMF slip on for the predator a couple of nights ago. The fit and finish is perfect. Looks great and fit like a glove. Very cool looking on the predator. Noise is loud but deep. It is not a raspy pipe but a deep bark I like it alot. I did not purchase the quiet core because I dont ride anywhere that monitors the noise levels. If you do you will definately want to get the quiet core which they claim will still produce 95% of the power increase. Now for the good stuff.
I have a buddy that has the WB slip on so we could ride each one right after another for comparison. Each quad has the stock air box. My HMF is rejetted to a 155 main which is what they recommend and sent me. His has the stock jetting per WB and the shop where he bought it.
Flat out drag racing is pretty close for top-end. The HMF does pull alittle better up on top but not enough difference to get all excited about. Where this thing shines over the WB is the low end to mid range torque. It is a huge difference over the WB slip on with stock air box configuration. This thing just rips down low with power. We done some hill climbs that were pretty muddy and steep with no approach run. The HMF pulled them in second with all kinds of power and some to spare just waiting for me to open the throttle. The WB could do it but would really bog down at the top. We both agreed that to get the same kind of power out of the WB at top you had to be in first gear. The hands down winner is the HMF for torque which is what the predator really needs and it sacrifices nothing on top to get it. This thing makes great power from start to finish with no stumbles along the way. In my opinion the only reason one should consider not getting the HMF would be noise but then again you could always get the quite core.
I give an A+ to HMF for this pipe it is just what they told me it would do on the phone when I called them. I am glad I purchased this pipe. From my seat of the pants dyno I would say that their dyno chart on the web is accurate with the HP and Torque this thing produces. Well spent $229

Great review blueblaster!! You already have me excited to buy one!! Although many are going to argue in favor of the W/B cause your friend was running stock jetting, and will call it an unfair comparison, but I still enjoyed reading positive results from the HMF. Thanks for the info. Maybe one of these days we will find ourselves in the same riding area at the same time!! But to be fair, I did email rath racing who had tested both units...hmf and W/B. They said the dyno comparisons were so similar that they were basically the same, and that was with his jetting mods to the w/b. He did say he thought the w/b may be better built, but I don't see HMF as being to far behind. Like you said in an earlier post (i think it was you, correct me if I'm wrong), Rath likes both silencers, but is under contract to run the W/B!!

I dont see anyway that the WB is better constructed this thing is very nicely crafted. Yes, I was the one that talked to Rath and he told me he really liked it but was under contract with WB and you can bet that saying he likes it is about as far as he can go. I dont know about air box mods but stock for stock the HMF low-end is impressive compared to WB. I know people can argue about the jetting but most people were told by dealers and WB to run stock jetting with know other mods but the slip-on and HMF recommends 155 so you can only do so much. I know my buddy is seriously considering buying the HMF unit. Go get one and let me know your thoughts. I have only talked to one other guy who has one down in Missouri and he is very impressed also with the increase.

I will definately be buying one...as long as I don't crash my pred in the next Hare Scramble...crashing is expensive sometimes. But yeah, that's why I've been eyeing the HMF system so heavily. Great numbers without modding the airbox. I run mud occasionally and don't like worrying about inhaling water and dirt!! I'm glad you like it, I'm itchy to get one!!

Talk to Gary at esuperbikeshop - he has done comparisons with the polaris W/B slip on against all current avail pipes including the HMF and the dyno shows the W/B is the best avail. Go to esuperbikeshop.com and see the dyno runs and then if your still in doubt call Gary at the number listed on the sight and he will tell you how and why the W/B blows the competition away - I'm sure the only reason your HMF outperformed is that your friends jetting is not correct for max HP.

No thanks, I dont need to ask Gary, I know because I rode both one after another. I will wait for someone to do a dyno with no reason to fab the #'s. You know Gary has spent alot of time and money makeing his kit to run with the WB slip on. His kit was designed to be used with the WB so he is going to push that. I believe the WB slip on does not do alot for a stock air box design that is why some people were haveing troubles. Gary may have solved that issue and that is great. Look at HMF's site or call them. On other machines they tell you how to mod the air box for more power but not on the predator they said to leave it stock. That is where this pipe shines is for stock air box confiqurations. I need that because I ride in very wet conditions. All I have seen on Gary's site was his kit against a WB slip on dyno. I would like to see a stock exhaust dyno , WB slip on dyno with stock air box, other pipes with stock air box, and then his air box mod. All I can say I am very satisified and Gary cant tell me any different. Sorry

I would not beleave anything superbike shop says . They will say anything you want to hear to sell there stuff.I have been burn by them. And as far as the wb it runs best for me at glamis with stock jets.

Everyone talks power, and just skips over noise.
For those of us that ARE concerned about noise (just ask your neighbors, and yes I DO even live out in the sticks on acreage) the HMF is a very loud pipe.
I can still feel the chest pounding from a good mates Raptor running the HMF.......you could actually feel the exhaust pulses and see the dust get blown around 15-20 foot in back of him.........
LOUD doesn't equal more power. Check out any of the dyno tests numerous mags have published...........typically there is less that 2-3 horsepower difference between any slip on exhaust comparing 20 different units.........
Buy what fit and finish you like, the rest is just noise. From either the exhaust, or the advertised hype.

99BLUEBLASTER, I am not sure where you get your facts, but Superbike shop is actually a FMF dealer, not White Bros. FMF does make a slip on, but no gains over a properly jetted White Bros pipe. They have tested every pipe as they have became available, They are all fairly close in number's, but nothing so far has made any better numbers, and the disc design allows to tune the pipe for future mods. Trust me, If something comes out that makes some better numbers we will all be running it. It has nothing to do with name brands, just performance.

Why is it you Superbike groupies are so touchy. I never even said that Gary was a WB dealer SP700 where did that come from? I said his kit was designed with the WB pipe slip on. Is that a mis-statement I dont think so. Pipes are going to react differently to different air box confiqurations and jetting, that is the facts and Gary made his kit using the WB design and gave it his own twist. Note how you install the end pieces of the pipe. Of course he is making more power with the WB because he designed his kit for it. I stated that for the stock air box configurations the HMF shines in torque over the WB. I dont know why you guys are always so touchy when it comes to Gary. You put words in peoples mouths and then get all defensive. Grow up and get a life or stay on the superbike forum.
Heapster - yep it is loud compared to the WB. In my review I stated that if noise is a concern get the quiet core insert it is suppose to keep 95% of the power and reduce noise to 91. I dont ride where noise is a concern so I passed on it right now but may pick it up for some trips later. Those pics you sent me were nice, I will get some taken with the HMF on and send them to ya.
I am really impressed with the slip on for the stock air box. Very nice power increase. I think I gave a pretty fair review. If my buddies WB's would have been better I would have sent it back to HMF the same day but it isnt. Like I said the HP in straight up drag racing is pretty much even but low-end torque goes to HMF . Now start modding the air box and things may change but I need the stock air box and am happy with the performance the HMF delivered.
