Default Checking compression on a Trail Blazer,

I know how to do it on my Banshee, just keep kicking it till the needle levels out. My question is how do I check the compression on a 98 Trail Blazer. Just keep tapping the starter till the needle levels out. Use the pull starter, what? Thanx.

Default Checking compression on a Trail Blazer,

Either one should be alright. I use the pull start on mine.
Three - five pulls will do it.

Default Checking compression on a Trail Blazer,

Toomeey, Please let me trail this thread with a similar question. I have a new 03 Trail Boss and tried to check the compression on it. Now I know it has an auto compression release to make for easier pull starting. I mention this because the needle on my guage jumps 20 psig on every crank when using the electric start to crank it over - same for the pull starter - all the way up to ~90 psig. I thought I would get more than that but I don't know what the compression should be? It runs great. Any help?

Default Checking compression on a Trail Blazer,

Polaris doesn't give any compression numbers for 4 strokes because of the decompressor upsetting the reading. Instead Polaris recommends a cylinder leakage test rather than a compression test. It can be done, but unless the reading is extremely high or low, it cannot really pinpoint any problems. If your machine is running good, then don't worry about it. If you are unsure, you can do a leakdown test. Even with a leakdown test, the valves must be adjusted properly before attempting to get a good reading with it. Hope this helps.

Hey NCScrambler, Thank you for the help. I won't worry about it - the truth is I just wanted a reference point for the future. The info you provided is appreciated as it clears things up for me.

Default Checking compression on a Trail Blazer,

No problem, you could use it as a reference point, in the future you would know if it is very high or lower then what you got this time and it could help if there are problems.
