Default 250r runs full throttle

My 250r wont start. When I attempt to kick it over it does nothing. If I spray starter fluid into the piston it will start but it runs at full throttle unitl it burns out of the starting fluid. I check for a spark and it is good and I took apart the carb to clean it with a air compressor and put it back together. I cleaned the K&N also. What should I look for to fix this? Im thinking tearing apart the carb again and using carb cleaner on it or buying a new carb for it.

First thing,no more starter fluid, youll sieze the motor.Turn the gas on and pull the drain plug out of the carb bowl.Gas should run out continuosly. If that checks out,Take the bowl off and take the jets completely out and clean them.If you get no gas, pull the fuel line off the carb and make sure your getting gas,if so the float needle is stopped up.If neither of these helps check the reeds. Also hows your compression?

Thanks for the advice. I forgot to mention I also emptied the gas tank and put new gas in it. Unhooked the fuell line from the carb and gas does poor out when the gas is on. Ok, so next I will take out the bowl with the gas on and make sure gas come out continuosly. If that works should I use carb cleaner to clean the carb? Whats the best way to clean out the jets?

Carb cleaner and compressed air for the jets.

Also, when you clean out thw jets use a paper clip or something like that and poke thru the holes. I had to do that because the air compressor wouldnt blow it out.

Probably a stupid question but have you tried coast starting it? Have you tried a new spark plug? What ratio are you mixing the fuel? When was the last time the bike was running?

You need a compression tester. You screw it in place of your spark plug and then turn the bike over. It will give you a reading.

I havent tried push starting it yet because I live in the city were there is no place to do that without getting the cops called on you.. I tried a new spark plug. I use 32-1 ratio RS50 racing oil. The last time the bike ran was last summer. what compression should it be in thea area of? I got the bike last year and only rode it once so dont know a whole lot about it. I'm not sure what bore it is but it has the cool head dome (21cc over i think), boyeseen reeds, K&N filter, Keihen PJ carb, I dont now what the jets are in it, FMF gold series exhaust and spark arrestor.

I just did a compression check by renting the tool from autozone and the reading from one kick is only 90! I take it this means I have to rebuild the top end of the engine?

Even though the bottle and the manufacturer say 32:1, most people go with 40:1. The compression should be 170 per factory.
