Default shift while wheelie

It wont hurt the quad if u dont use the clutch as long as u dont do it all the time, but I would definately practice using the clutch. A good tip is to tap the rear brake when you go to far back. Once you get the hang of riding wheelies it is like riding a bike, never forget.

Default shift while wheelie

I never use the clutch when I'm wheelieing and shifting... Nothing wrong with that if you keep the gas off and no load on the tranny, just like in a truck, car, semi, shifting without the clutch, no biggie... I've driven my dad's duramax diesel for thousands of KMS with no damage whatsoever to the tranny, he drives it daily that way, only clutching it when you have to, like take offs, that's it... Same with my '01 Raptor with stock internals tranny but exhaust, no lid, and jetting with intake. No problems, no clutch slippage, no grindage, nothing... I race that way too, I let off for a split second and shift up real quick, it notch shifts... I totally trash quads way better when I race like that than with the clutch, it takes up too much time to pull the leaver in enough to take the load off the tranny... I find power shifting without taking your hand off the gas and using the clutch does way way more damage to a clutch than not pulling in the clutch at all and letting off the gas... Just more "potential" chances of tranny damage, but I think it'd be hard to do damage unless you really messed up... If that gear is gonna blow, it's gonna blow with or without the clutch, and I've proven it for this many years hard riding, pavement or studded ice to tell you that you can't evade the inevitable... Just remember this, don't cheap out on your oil, I think that's what I credit my '01 Raptor from holding it's tranny together, Motul all the way, never had a problem with it, nothing but the best performance, my modded '01 Raptor is proof right now, I can't blow the tranny up if I try right now! Can't even slip the stock clutch, but I have Hinso pressure plate and basket waiting for when it does! It grabs so hard with the 12 tooth I thought for sure after a couple of rides I'd blow my tranny up, nope... So until then, I'll keep shifting wihtout the clutch and just letting off the gas when I notch shift the tranny, haven't lost a race yet that way and it pulls so much quicker! That's what I do for wheelieing, and I've tried both, easier to balance the quad that way, just let off right when you start to lift the shifter and get right back on it when you feel the shifter engage.... That simple, no clutching problems for me....
