A 650?? com on- first time ever riding a quad. I was thinking of letting hime rent one for a week or two- Does anyone know of a place to rent one in MA. or Southern NH? Any help and advise would be very helpfull. All he talks abouts is buying my friends Raptor 650 ( which is cheap compared to a new one) ( but i dont want to spend all the money I saved in hospital bills) He has never ridden any quad or motor bike before- Iam with the quy that said learn the machine first than the clucth. thanks Have a safe and happy new year.
Actually Sir, if I may correct u the Raptor is a 660 and I am a proud owner of the machine, how big is your son and is he a responsible or wild child? This Quad is very powerful it produces @ 36-38 HP and runs at a speed of @ 78-80MPH in stock form. So in my opinion start him out with say a 350 Warrior by Yamaha or a 300EX by Honda those would probably be a good choice. As far as renting one I'm not sure that you could do that unless you were at the beach.

It funny reading these replies. The kid is 13, never been on a quad and remotely suggesting a rapter is insane and irresponsible.
Bing I agree with you, anything bigger then a 300 is trouble. I don't agree with the government telling us what size quad we should let our kids ride, but its the mentality that is being displayed here that shows how irresponsible some people can be. And this is why the government feel they need to protect us from ourselves. JMO

A Raptor will be way too much at 13. Warriors and 400EX's are great bikes to start out on, as you can't do much to break them, and a lot of people never do grow out of them. I'm 15 and just now starting to think about getting rid of the Warrior. The Raptor will be a lot to handle I think, look for a Warrior or maybe 300EX, or a 400EX if you can handle it.

Why not go with a 400 ex and shut the throttle down so you can open it up later as skill and judgment develop and it wil last you a lot longer and you wont lose cash on dealing it in.

PS . the raptor is definatly not for you they are fast even at low revs and could get away from you know problem they are also not the most stable qaud out there. (not trying to start a war wth rappy owners but for a first bike you know what i mean ? )

I know what you mean blue250r.

Big bores and Banshees are not for beginners, IMO.

Get the Z400 if you want good bang for the buck
Ive always been happy with Honda - but just got a Suzuki - and they are by far much nicer than the old outdated 400ex (which i used to have)

but if money is no object - GET HONDA 450R.

Z400 is a very good 2nd place and all around bike !!!!!

Why not just do the smartest thing of all...talk to a local dealer and enroll him in a ATV training course....let a pro teach him the ropes and then use the info from the instructor to help with this purchase......just a thought
