Who cares which bike wins in a drag. Everybody arguing that this bike is a ciouple bike lengths ahead of this one, blah blah blah. Rider ability and weight have a lot to do with that. One rider may be heavier than another, and one may not be shifting as fast or efficiently as the other. Power wise, the DS and YFZ are close. I'm a smaller guy, and I found myself way more comfortable on the YFZ. The DS was ridiculously huge and I questioned whether the damn thing even felt like riding a quad. It's shear size makes it feel much less maneuverable than the YFZ. If you want to line up against another guy and go as fast as you can in a straight line, then either bike will work for you, both have a ton of potential. If you actually want to ride the thing and jump, the 450 is the only way to go. I like to jump and go big, and after riding the DS I couldn't see myself maneuvering the thing 15 feet in the air to line up for a landing. I only ride at the dunes, and have seen the YFZs take a majority of the drag races, jumping higher and further than any other quad, and flat out outdoing every other quad out there. Sure, a drag built quad is going to beat a 450, but do you really wanna ruin a bike and turn it into a drag quad?

u must be crazy or just plain stupid, because a new yfz 450 will smoke any stock atv in 300ft. The yfz runs 4.6s in 300ft. your lucky if a ds650 could get under 5.0s , but the ds will take it on top end.
ROTFLMAO!!! Now i could see 5.6 (on a fast track) but 4.6?! LOL no way in heck. And good running ds goes about 6.2.

k2snow you made some good points but I disagree about the ds's handling. I took first place this year on my ds in the NEATV-MX open C class, there was over 70 entries in the open C class alone! my quad was still stock I got my suspension after the season was done.

dsracer666, i'll admit my opinion on the DS is kinda swayed because of my size. i am a really small guy thanks to mom and dad, my mom is 4'1'' and my dad is 5'6'', leaving me at a mere 5'3''. i'm probably not gonna grow too much more. ANYWAY, i basicly feel even smaller on the DS. I ride an EX and have no problem maneuvering the thing around, especially in the air. i suppose it would be ideal for bigger guys, but it is just way too big for me. for the average rider, i'd have to go with the yfz. another thing, although i didn't jump the DS, it seemed really heavy. they yfz feels superlight and that thing will launch over anything. i will always remember seeing this one guy on a yfz riding over the top of a dune and actually launching off of it, something none of the other quads could do. hard to explain, but the dune was actually just like a little hill with a slight curve and the guy was rmaping off of it. nobody else could get enough speed or were simply too heavy and they'd stay on the ground.

Gotta jump in on this one. a couple of weeks ago i raced a banshee that was modded pretty heavy. I beat it by over three lengths. The banshee was making more power than my DS and had a huge weight advantage over me. The banshee owner had just bought the banshee and could not shift worth crap, thats were i beat him. I was ready to get smoked bad but his inexperience cost him the race. The point is it comes down to who is the better rider. I will admit the DS doesn't jump out of the hole as fast but once you get it winding up it pulls great.

Now this is one of the people who just seem to pi$$ me off because they think they know everything.

now now no need to get hostile ! the ds isnt for everyone , the smaller riders have always disliked the ds's size . The ds is not a good quad for a small rider . the yfz and 04 ds are very close in a drag race and rider error or skill to drag race will be the factor in the winner. just tire's alone will deturman a winner. I give the yfz a ton of respect ... 450cc of monster power .... a 450 should be no were near a 650 .but it is peobs to them for a fast quad
Now I can agree to this
