A stock warrior or blaster is out of the league. IMO, everything from the 400ex up to the 700 vforce are relatively close. Even the ex can be made to chew up the big boys. A missed shift will lose you the race stk vs stk raptor and z. That tells me they are at least in the same zipcode.

It would take a Z440 to compete with the Raptor's. The shear size difference in cc's and power are enough to put the Raptor above the Z. Had many many races....Yoshi piped z vs. stock raptor....easily won on a uphill drag. Alba piped Z vs. Alba piped Raptor....several flat drag's and the alba Z doens't even come close. Haven't gotten the chance to run the 440's, but with the new 686 it's irrelavant.

its true that a 440 would be needed to run with a piped raptor. but considering you are still giving up 220cc's its quite an accomplishment. Yes I know the raptor is detuned, but that doesnt really matter in a race. I'm just trying to say that the z is still a quick machine with good power and is plenty for most recreational riders.

I have seen a piped Z400 take a piped Raptor. Raptors aren't all that impressive stock, yes they are slightly faster than a stock Z400 but not by that much. They are extremely weak from the factory for 660cc. Maybe all the Raptors around here have some problem, I don't know. Once you start to modify the Raptor they can become very wicked machines. As for the size of the machines themselves they are very simialr. I think the Z400 handles a little better just because it is wider. On the trails it really depends on the riders preference. Durability I think both machines have proven themselves very well. The only problem on the Raptors are the starter's. The only problem with the Z400 is the weak axle and frame problem which should be taken care of on the newer models. If you end up wanting to modify whichever quad you get the Raptor is going to be ALOT easier on your wallet than a Z400 to get similar power.
Ride them both then decide, both are great quads with alot of potential.

i bought a 03 z400 and i couldnt decide wether i wanted a raptor or a z for a long time,i am happy with my choice now.i went riding last weekend with a buddt who has a piped and jetted raptor and my stock z, we draged froma roll in 1st on pavement and went all out in 5th for a wile i had him all the way to 5th then he slowwly pulled me by a half a bike we were both impresed but i way abought 50lbs less so that might make a difference we did it a couple of times with the same results.so a piped and jetted z will do real good i think i love to ride wheeleie to can go real far. then the rappy starter messed up and he also had a hard time keeping the wheels on the ground in fast turns because of the narrow rear end,i am very happy with my choice, lol

rc let me get this right you had a stock z vrs a piped and jetted raptor and it took til 5th gear for him to pass you???? I don't like to bust stones on here but something is way way off with this. He would've had to wiegh 500 pounds more than you not 50 pounds. You have a great quad in the z, best of luck with it and enjoy.

I am a huge fan of the z400, but unless that guy had no idea how to ride I dont see how you could have been close to him all the way in 5th gear. Especially since you are stock and he has a pipe, just doesnt seem right. He should have atleast 10-12 hp on you.

Don't get me wrong, the Z400 is a quick machine. It's a impress machine, but it's not in the same category as the Raptor.
As for the Raptor being weak in stock form....it is compared to what it can be, but you have to look at how detuned it is. Basically everything in stock form is holding the Raptor back.
In about a week, I will get to feel the true power of the Raptor...

i woul dhave to disagree with everything you guys are saying.... i have a kfx400 with no go fast mods, my buddy has z400 w/ the team suzuki full system lid ON, and my other buddy has a raptor........the raptor lost.. in every drag race we did to the suzuki, and it always had to catch up to me and then pass because it did not accel faster.
