i ride with an assortment of quads some 250s a few 450s and sometimes a few 400s so...i don't what im going to do yet

 

Trust me get a 400EX! It has plenty of power for what you're doing and for some reason you still want more power you can get a White Brothers e-series pipe with a k&n then you would be good to go![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

 

Your trails must be alot more strait than where I ride because REAL trails are a 400EX's playground. The only time we 400EX riders get pissed is when we're waiting on the Raptors in our group...............[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

They aren't in the same league. The Raptor is a top of line machine, and a 400ex is a air cooled dinosaur in technology.

Yes, the raptor was the most kickass dinosaur ever. Just watch jurrasic park. LOL. I've never had a problem with my raptor, 'cept when I flipped over backwards at the top of a hillclimb and it bounced the whole way down. And that was FAR from its fault. That was a loose nut behind the handlebars. And after bouncing down 150 feet, I still rode it out of tower city. Anyone who's ever been there knows that's no easy task with trashed bars, controls, and no front brakes.

The Raptor riders in your group must be slow riders because the Raptor can go through the trails just fine. Then as soon as you hit that open fire road the 400EX's start to eat rocks! Never had no 400Ex waiting for me I have however hit some wide open trails and got far enough ahead of the 400 EX's to lose sight of them! 400 Ex is a nice quad good all around. Raptor is good all around with way more power. If you don't like doing maint and do not want to properly maintain your quad go with the EX. They seem to be able to withstand more abuse without proper maintenance than a Raptor can. Seems the 400Ex will run forever with no more than an airfilter cleaning!

I would suggest riding both of them to get a feel for the differences..

If you are comparing stock for stock the 400EX edges out the Raptor in handling and jumping(mx and twisty trails) and the Raptor edges out the EX in power(drag racing and wide open trails). Either one can be modified to compete with the other in either area.

Bottom line is they both have their weaknesses, it depends on which one you can live with.

BTW, If I were in the market right now I would just bite the bullet and buy a YFZ or 450R and have the best of both worlds.
