It's hard for drag racing(if you get stuck in N)......but they are designed for riding hard on mx and xc courses(like the dirtbike).....don't really know how to explain it, but its easier.....when your on the gas(barely holding on) its easier to lift to shift, also easier to shift for jumps, etc.

Almost all of the bikes racing in the AMA and Moto Gp circuits go 1 up 5 Down. The reason neutral is not at the bottom or top like it is on a automatic clutch i.e. bear tracker, is hitting neutral is extremely dangerous in racing environments. The only time i've been hurt bad on a quad was going up a hill the quad was almost at the top running out of steam and I thought I had one more gear left. I hit neutral (being it was on bottom) and the quad rode me all the way to the bottom of the hill. On a street bike if you come into a corner you need to keep accelerating slightly just prior to the apex. If you are at maximum lean angle and don't stay on the gas a tad to keep some weight off your front wheel it is more likely to wash out. Racing dirt bikes is the same, you don't ever want to find neutral. Neutral is only needed as you push you bike off the course. So people who are trying to get maximum performance in race environments don't want to find neutral it spells disaster.
