First off, the raptro IS geared taller, so it should have a taller top speed. I'm confused on who all of you are, so if you were talking about racing that guy with the rev box, than the answere should be obvious, he can rev out higher! If you're talkin about stock cdi, than you just can't ride! Anyway, I don't know what your buddy was doin to blow his yfz up after two months! If it's the kid with the cdi, than he must have just been practicly at limiter constantly! The YFZ is an overall pretty dang good motor, and difenatley should last longer than that! I've put over 100 hours on mine since I got it three months ago, and I havn't had a single problem with it! Plus, 12 of my buddies ride yfz 450's too, and there have been no problems with them. A few of them are '04's too, and they have no complaints! I'd say your buddy needs to learn to ride and take care of his bike. Take care of your bike, and it'll take care of you.

Ok, that sounded pretty wierd! Kinda dumb to make crap up though. anyway, on the yfz's, you have to run the headlights to charge the battery. I don't know why, but the battery going dead was starting to be a big complaint, so Yamaha looked into it, and found that the headlights have to be on to charge the battery. They sent out a notice to the yamaha dealers to notify them on the find. One of my riding buddies is a yamaha salesman. So run your headlights, it shouldn't happen again.

Hey now, don't be putting down those craptors. They made me a beleiver. Try racing a yfz for several hours. Talk about fatigue and a serious back ache. I have rode 2 and there both the same. The raptor is more comfortable and just as fast. In the woods it is just the ryder and there preferances. Add another cam to the raptor and see what happens. I bet you it would be an awesome machine then huh? Well it still is. Even with my half bald turf tamer tires it is a pain to keep the front end down on trails. Thats with about 10 lbs of air in the tires. About maces yfz being blown uo i was jusk kidding around with him no harm done. His machine runs as good as the day he got it.....It runs like crap LOL. J.K. But the raptor is a fine machine and is reliable (on certain ones not mine). Plus you can power wheelie in 3rd and 4th gear all day Can you do that on your (slightly) modified yfz's ive seen one jump up in 3rd but only for a second.

No doubt that they're good bikes, and that they're comfortable. They sit way too high for me, are way too tippy, and are NOT as fast! You can make them as fast/faster, if you build the raptro and leave the yfz stock! Yes, I can power wheelie mine easily in third, not fourth. I can pull it into a wheelie in fourth and keep it up pretty dang easily though. I don't race, so I cant argue you with that at all, but I'd end up quitting the hobby if I rode a raptor every weekend. When my raptor friends want to trade for a while now, I dont even bother anymore! I don't have fun on them at all. Different animals I guess, pick what fits you best. Bang for the buck though, I'd pick the yfz. Money aside, I'd pick the yfz. Overall, I'd pick the yfz!
