Predator test ride...first impressions.
#1
Took a test ride at my local Polaris dealer. What stood out the most is this thing turns sharp! Unbelievably it turns sharper than my much smaller 300EX. It was incredibly agile cutting through the woods. I could even throw the rear end around like my EX, I wasn't expecting that. It wasn't scary fast like I was expecting either that or I didn't realize how fast I was going. Anyway the power was very smooth and controlable. The only nagative I can think of is it just didn't sound like a Honda. Just not as smooth, I think I'm hearing the chain running over the guard or over the small tension roller just behind the front sprocket. That and the motor just sounded different. Overall I really liked it. I should have bought it and came home with it today but I decided to sleep on it.
One question...the way the seat hooks on the single screw attached to the gas tank seems insufficient. Has anyone had a problem with that?

it looks like it sucks, but it actually works very well, its just a positioning anchor point, the whole part of the seat actually fits into the body work and the latches were your butt is.
as far as the sound, theres alot of sounds that come off the predator that sound like that, the roller for the chain, the brake drag up front, and the rear hub. remember if you buy it, to put grease in the rear hub till it starts coming out the side, it'll take a good 20 pumps of grease.
what did you ride today?
that motor can be opened up and made REALLY nice sounding, all you need are the right parts, like a Rath Raceing stainless steel header, and a HMF slip on

Not yet. Actually the next day I bought an issue of "Quad" magazine and saw the Outlaw. I'm gonna wait and read some reviews and see what people are saying on this and other forums, etc. Honestly it's an exciting and confusing time to be looking for a sport or race quad. So many great choices. I have to tip my hat to Polaris for being the most innovative and willing to go out on a limb. If the Outlaw does what I think it will the ball will be in the other big name companies court.

I think the Outlaw will stand the sport quad world on it's head. That thing is going to be awesome. I didn't have the descipline to wait though...more power to ya if you do. I think it will be worth the wait.

I will pick great handling over top speed every time so I don't rate top speed all that highly, but my buddy has a vintage 250R, and two guys showed up on piped 500's at one of the Glamis trips, and he says neither could even come close keeping up with the old R. Something to think about???

too bad 250R's are about as hard to come by as a Gold Bar
