The best tires for hardpack will be the ones that have a large number of small, closely spaced traction blocks. The terf tamers come to mind here. Trouble is closely spaced blocks will pack up real fast in the mud.

I have lots of hardpacked hills with world class wicked hill climbs, behind my house. I tried the Holeshot H-D's back there, and absolutely hated them! They made the back end fishtale terribly. I would pick the H-D only for softer loamy soil, and wet conditions (but not necessarily deep mud). And they are kind of heavy.

I have run Holeshot XC's on all my big sport bikes for many years, and they have always given great performance as well as durability!

yes...i would say turf tamers also...and if you want really good hook up you can have them groved, removing some of the blocks
