My motto is to never ride a utility anywhere you can ride a sport bike! If you don't need 4wd, racks, or big fenders for mud protection, you are way ahead on a sport machine.

The Z is a superb handling machine and one of the most "comfortable" machines there is. Even the best utilities are extremely heavy (top heavy!) and clumsy compared to a sport machine, and way more DANGEROUS. In a rollover, you are way better off on a (375 pound) sport bike than a (600-700+ pound) ute. In fact, I am selling off my utilities and switching to (225 pound) dirt bikes for mountain technical trail riding! The dirt bikes are just way safer in nasty terrain.

40 is hardly over the hill! I'm 52, and EVERYBODY eats my dust! (And I only date women who are half my age.)

Hmmmm, I just bought my first sport after 15 years of utes....... 49 is right around the corner....

Of course, I have always considered how much a quad weighs when it is on top of you (past experience). The big utes are wonderful machines--- but had I been riding one on a few of my .. uumm... getoffs, I would likely be dead or paralyzed.

Well I believe that variety is the spice of life so I keep a good stock of both sport and ute's. Being just shy of 50 I have no plans to retreat from either, the longer we ride sensibly the longer we will be able to.

Carrera,

I'm 41 and have an '05 KFX400, and '05 BF650. You're never too old. These are the first quads I've owned. Until this year I was riding an XR400.
In fact, I fractured my wrist in October...on my BF!!
It was stupid (always is). I was doing a donut and high-sided and got thrown off.
I guess I'll keep the donuts to the KX with the lower center of gravity from now on.

I also have two street bikes (ZRX1200R and Spirit 1100).
If you have speed in your blood like most of us, you won't be too old to ride a sport quad or bike until they put you in a box.
