old 2 strokes still have it?

I'm starting to realize that 4 strokes are taking over. Hell, I can't even remember the last time I was out riding with another 2 stroke! Seems to me that theres alot of smack talk and arguing between the 400/450 stroker guys and us 2 strokers, and everybody has their own opinion, and I wouldn't mind hearing a few from you guys. I just wanna know if you think the old 2 strokes still have it, or are the up and coming 4 strokes just gonna plow them into oblivion?
Personally, I think they still have it, and as long as die-hard 2 strokers like myself are around (who have never owned a 4 stroke... ever) they'll never die. No doubt these new 4 strokes are something to recon with, but all I can say is bring it on, Nothing tops a race of the never ending 4 stroke vs. 2 stroke wars!

it depends on what type of stuff you are talkin about, where i race two-strokes still have it, i race in studded ice racing and hill climbs like pikes peak where hp is king. but if you talk about trail and MX riding then there is no dought that us thumpers have it hands down. for the die hard in yall 2 strokes let me ask you a question. now that no manufature is making 2-strokes how long do you think aftermarket companies will keep making stuff for them. not long they are going to go after the ever growing 4-stroke market. so to you die hard 2-stroke guys. i say get ready to die hard and fast.

They are both very good at there intended purposes. Once the manufacturers can produce 2 strokes that meet emissions they will because they can get more horsepower out of the two strokes. I dont think there going away forever. there just in the redesigning stage. Though I think I will always want a four stroke for trail riding and a two stroke for racing and hill climbing where top end hp is whats important.

I think the 2 strokes still have it. for instance look at the banshee its a legendary drag bike.
I think that they will get 2 strokes more enviromentally in the next few years because they wont be able to do much more to the 4 strokes so they will have to get 2 strokes out again because there faster when its the same size cc.

Well I'm gonna disagree if you think aftermarkets will stop. The banshee has a huge aftermarket, and look at the 250r, which has an incredible one itself, and has been out of production for over 15 years! I think 2 strokes have plenty of time, and 4 strokers arent realizing that their technology isn't really getting "Better" its just getting bigger. More displacement will always be a fairly simple way to bring in hp. 2 strokes have the pluses of higher RPM's, faster intake and exhaust flow (seeing that there arent any valves for anything to pass thru... just reedvalve intake and powervalve exhaust((for some)) everything goes pretty much right in, fires on every hit, and goes right out. 4 strokes fire every other revolution. But I'll admit I lose when I say the word Reliability. My Banshee is reliable but it's all factory, and it's been babied its whole life with approx. 60-70 hours on the whole machine. 4 strokes, without a doubt are more reliable and in some cases have better fuel economy, and they are much cheaper to run needing less maintenance, less often, and running on straight gas, and not a mix. Very appealing to the lazy rider who likes to slam the hell out of his machine and park it.

ok yall i will admit that the 2-strokes will never die but fiscally they are dieing because the average jo who goes into their local shop are only going to see 4-strokes. then once they get it out of the show room they might want to put stuff on it, where are they going to go? anywhere they can, so most aftermarket companies (NOT ALL) will be making parts for 4-strokes and not 2-strokes. so that is why 2-strokes are dieing and will never die they just will not be used by many people. yall 2-stroke riders i give it to ya for sticking with a dieing motor design.

If you mean companies will start to make more money on the new 4-strokes then yeah they will, but that doesn't mean they will pull the plug on 2 stroke parts. As an example, fmf isn't going to throw away their fatty or sst pipe stampers and jigs because they sell more yfz pipes. So what if the 2-stroke is dead on the show room floor. Mine are alive and kicking, and will be 20 years from now.

Well said... companies are already bringing in more from 4 strokes, been like that for 5 years now, and theres still tons of 2 stroke parts coming out. Supply and demand. There will always be demand, therefore theres always gonna be a supply.
