Well stock for trails the ltr 450 starts with a disadvantage with the 18 in tires. The ground clearance sucks and it can be to wide for some trails. Now you take those cons for trail riding and put it on a track and they turn into advantages. Stock a yfz is probally faster but who rides a stock quad that is worried about how fast it is.
These are questions that just come down to personal preference if there was a definate right answer there would only be one 450 class quad sold lol

Stock the YFZ is faster. With both piped and airboxed the YFZ is faster.
The LTR rides better and handles better. And jumping there's no contest, the LTR shocks and suspension are wonderful on landings.
So there's your choice: win a drag race with the YFZ, better comfort/handling on the LTR which may win you races on the MX track.

I sat on all 3 450's at the dealer and loved the yfz and 450r for trial riding as they both can fit through the trails easier and have a better ground clearence but went with a honda 450r because it had better ergonomics when sitting on it versus the yfz all 3 are nice quads but would recommend the lt for the track or wide open areas. Otherwise sit on both and ride them and see which one you like best I went with the 450r check out my pics.

Everything I have read that compares these three says that the Suzuki is better on the track but the Yamaha is better for the trails and better all around.
My real world experience indicates taht the YFZ is a decent trail quad. I enjoy it quite a bit on the trails. It's nice and light and handles well.

You forget that $40 gets adds an aditional 7 horsepower to the ltr. that plus a pipe puts it ahead of a yfz with a pipe
