Default Question For ReconRanger

You give a lot of really good advice so I have a question for you. From your advice, I decided to buy a 400EX as I like to do a lot of slow rocky trails. I ended up with a new KFX400 instead as it was $1,200.00 less than a new 400EX. Could not see paying so much more for a less technically advanced machine. If I just go down a tooth in front, would it be better for slow technical riding? Are there any downsides to this. Note, I do not have much interest in riding extremely fast. Thank you.

Default Question For ReconRanger

I never went down a tooth on my Z, so I can't say first hand. When I did it on the EX, it became wheelie happy and was almost unrideable (but the EX has a really torquey low end to begin with). On the other hand, I went down one tooth on the 450R, and I don't really notice it.

So....front sprockets are cheap...get one and try it out!

Default Question For ReconRanger

After I put a low-mid range pipe and high flow filter on my Z400 I used to own, it really helped the bottom end for the tighter trails around here. Just throwing out another option so if the sprocket change doesn't get it where you want.

That engine likes to rev (although not nearly as much as the way "over square" 450's), but tuning it for low end and finding a pipe that favors low end is a great idea.

Default Question For ReconRanger

you made the right choice gettin the kfx over the 400ex. I noticed the 400ex sells for more $$ to. I couldnt believe it, the zuki is liquid cooled, faster, better shocks and i dont see the need to go any slower then like walking speed. I can just lightly press my front brake and the bike will jsut crawl along in the trails and i have no probably getting through real tight trails. I have stock 14t front sprocket to.
