Did someone say "orange YFZ"? Take a look at picture two on my picture page. I had an orange YFZ two years ago, compliments of Polysport plastic. That picture is of the start of the USRA Grand Prix desert race in Mesquite Nevada. A bone stock YFZ 450 with an FMF Q-2 slip on exhaust and some rejetting smoked two KFX 440 big bore stroker motors to the first turn. I talked to the Kawi riders on the starting line, and they had both spent thousands on motor work. It makes me wonder how the KFX 450 would do now a days though.

I've tried all the 450's besides the new ds450 (which isnt out for me to know, and the ltr450) the yfz has more low end rip than all the others but only because of its gearing, the trx is slightly faster but sacrifices some power to do so, the kfx 450 seems a little to tippy but on dirt i found it to be better than the others because it has the right amount of rip not to spin over at the take off and and also more well balanced than the others....

If I mostly rode track, did a lot of jumping or play riding (backyard MX), I would pick the Yamaha.....
....but the Honda is the KING OF THE DESERT! In the big long distance desert endurance races, if you aren't on the 450R you probably won't even finish the race much less win. That says volumes to me! Wouldn't have a use for any of the others..... </end quote></div>
Granted, I don't have a 450r, but what I read in atv mags seems to indicate that the transmission craps out after hard usage. With the specs on all of the 450's basically the same (except for the much wider Suzi) how is it that the 450r reigns supreme in the desert....in your biased opinion?

Anyone notice in the shootout the dyno numbers were taken at 3000'? There was even a reference that the 450r lost a lot of power from sea level to 3000'.......why was the sea level dyno info not provided? Hmmm. Looks like Honda needs increase the "cough" "advertising dollars" "cough".
