How much should I be getting beat up?
#1
I have had my Warrior for a couple months and just feel like riding this thing is killing me. It is much rougher than I thought it would be. I thought for sure these things would have suspension that soaked up the bumps. Anyways, should I be standing slightly most of the time? Are most other quads tough on you and I just need to get used to it? Also, are dirt bikes a little smoother on your average trail tha a ATV?
Thanks

you will get used to it...to a certain extent. My arms killed when i first got mine, my *** was a bit sore too. Back was taking a bit of a beating but now i kinda stand more and im used to it. did you soften up the suspension any?

Well, I just took my air pressure down a bit and that helped. I also noticed my arms hurt because I am hanging back on the ATV with my arms stretched. I tried moving up and closer to the gas tank with my arms bent and it feels better. It was almost like I was riding around in the position when you try to do wheelies. I think I can get used to it.

You only need to adjust your suspension, if your air pressure was too high that will help some, just make sure you are a least no lower than the required minimum psi, stand more and buy a kidney belt, it will help some. Also get a streering damper, some softer hand grips. If none of this works out than you shouldnt be Off roading, its part of the whole sport.

I think I am definitly getting a steering damper. However, I have been riding all day and what I noticed and that before I was constantly holding on for dear life. Now I am scooting up towards the tank more and relaxing my arms whenever I can. It is making a huge difference! More weight towards the front makes the rear slide really good also.

Warriors are ergonomically at odds with the sitting/standing transition. You sit so low in the saddle that a lot of people complain that it is hard to stand up.
However, I would say that you are getting beat up because you are out of shape for riding.... People who don't ride, have NO IDEA how physically demanding it is to ride a sport machine. Sitting around on a big UTE, going slow, has a limited impact on the body, and that is often what people associate ATVs with.
But being on a sport machine, hitting jumps, sliding, banging gears etc..etc..... is VERY demanding on the body. You can spend a lot of time in the gym working out, and not hit all the muscles you need for riding. I can ride a stationary bike for an hour, and not get 1/10th as sore as I do in 5 laps around our MX track. After hitting those jumps for a few laps my legs feel like I ran a marathon the next day.
The more you ride, the less sore you will get. Although the Warrior is not equipped with the best suspension or ergonomics, it won't really beat you up too much more than most sport ATVs. In fact, try holding onto one of the 450s for a while. Those suckers pull on your arms a lot more than a Warrior will.

Well, just as I was getting better at riding I got an offer to trade my warrior for a 99 yz 125. I jumped on it. The yz needs a new top end but I am taking care of it as we speak. I rode it a little and I really think this is more down my alley. Of course I think my next ride will be a 250 or 450 4 stroke dirt bike. This will be fun to learn on though.
