No mistake on their part. Winning races sells ATV's and they sure are doing that. They can always change them later for trail riding, but winning races is the best cheap advertising they can get.</end quote></div>

I gaurantee that throughout the US and Canada most people that buy 450's ride xc or sand dunes. And any rider that is serious into racing is going to change a-arms, shocks, engine mods etc., no matter what the quads come with from the factory, unless they want to get beat. Even the DS450 race quads have these things done to them and they are supposed to race ready from the factory.</end quote></div>

i dont recall can-am claiming to be race ready........ they just wanted to be the lightest with the most power

Does it have more power than a kfx450r? the ds450 has 9%more power than the 450r, but mags say the kfx feels like a HRC'd 450r- which does close to 50hp

how wide are they in stock form..... for some reason KTM doesnt want to tell us

probly 46inches wide like like the others- what a waste of money to get adjustable a-arms and axle but still only 460" wide</end quote></div>

The KTM is made for XC and that is why there called 525XC. So for XC, 46" wide is perfect. Other then the LTR, no other quad is mx wide. And if you have any XC experience, adjustable a-arm will get you through the woods much quicker then none. The mighty DS450 is just as wide, but no adjustable a-arms and is only 5lbs lighter then the KTM and it's all aluminum. So the KTM are very well built.

I got a chance to see the KTM 525 quad in person today at Hurricane Hills. One my semi-regular riding buddies traded in his Raptor 700 + $$$ to get one.

I was very, very impressed with how beefy everything was from the factory. From the steering stem, to the tie-rods, to the A-arms, this thing seemed to be made to take abuse.

Unfortunately, the thing was suffering carburetor problems for the last 2/3 of the day and would barely stay running for the last 1/3 of the day. I saw a stock YFZ450 with the baffle out blow it away. I felt for this guy that spent $9000 for what is a great quad, just to have maybe a problem in dealer setup or some crap getting in his carb, from enjoying the day. He was ready to take the thing back. I'm sure after he comes to his senses and takes it in to have the dealer look at it, it'll be something simple.

Have him look at his choke. Heard many times people leaving them on and that is the issue your buddy had. The choke is hidden, so many forget about it.

I'm pretty sure he checked that the choke was off. I know after he got wasted by the YFZ450 he was checking the CDI Wiring Harness for a Race mode of some sort? Seems like all the big problems started after that...

It's one of those quads that when you see it in person, you sorta have trouble judging the width at first. I had to go look at the other one that was sitting close to an LTR450 to really tell.

All in all, it seems to be a normal stock width to me. 45-46 inches.

Now, with that said, I also like a wider machine like the LTR.... until I get into tight woods.
So, you have to understand that these quads are for XC... not the MX versions.

These things are set up to thrash XC/GNCC and woods like mine.

Wrong quote for me. I said what is right above of what you said. The KTM is made for XC and not MX. There MX version will be out next year, or you can buy there mx a-arms.

So how can adjustable camber a-arms make you do better in XC? can't you just get a-arms that are the correct camber in stock form? or do you need different camber for diff setups?

It depends on the track conditions. If it's a tight track, it can be adjusted to steer easier, but won't be as good at high speeds. If it's a open track, it can be made for high speeds, but won't steer as nice. That's what nice about adjustable a-arms. You can adjust to track conditions.

I honestly don't know what happened there in that post. I didn't even quote you, but the first paragraph is yours.

I never even read it, much less quoted it.
If I had, I wouldn't even have posted because you covered it all.

I'm going to go try to edit that.
Maybe a mod did that to make a point about pete and repeat?
