If you have been babying it, it is to late already! You need to hammer it at the very start and create high compression, or the rings will never properly seat.

Motoman has a good article on this. I am not at home, but when I get there I will post a link for you to read.....

Do an oil/oil filter change after 1 hour of riding to get the metal shavings out of the engine right away! Stick with a basic petroleum oil during break-in, then switch to a synthetic after that. I highly recommend the ester synthetic oils....I run Maxima Extra in everything!

For break-in I do hillclimbs. Fortunately I have very steep hills behind my house! I charge up a hill fast, then turn around and come down it under very heavy engine braking. I do that three times then park the quad and cool it off completely. Next day I do it again, and then again for several days, then I just ride it like normal but not at any one speed for a long period of time. After ~10-20 hours I switch to synthetic oil.
