Actually the ATV manufactures are holding back.

AC 1000_________65.84 hp
Can Am 800______61.7 hp
Can Am 650______55.4 hp
Brute 750 Carb____50.1 hp
Polaris 800_______50.1 hp
Brute 750 EFI_____49.8 hp
King Quad 750____49.6 hp
King 700_________48.5 hp
Grizzly 700________45.6 hp
Polaris 700_______44.3 hp
AC 700 H1_______41.4 hp
AC 700__________41.4 hp
Grizzly 660_______40.9 hp
Can Am 500______40.4 hp
AC 650 H1_______39.3 hp
Rincon 680_______38.5 hp
King 450_________36.7 hp

65hp is the top dog in ATVs, yet Arctic Cat(Suzuki makes there motors),Polaris,Yamaha and Can Am All make smaller 800cc 4 stroke sled engines that make well over 100 hp easily.
I think they just know there would be law suits like they did with 3 wheelers if they when all out on ATVs.

This isnt good... That is what happened to the 3 wheelers.
Honda came out with the 250r which was insanely fast. Soon after atc realated injuries began rising. I myself got hurt on a 1986 250r and was in the hospital for a week. The 250r engine had way to much power to be in a 3 wheeler frame.. for most people. what i am trying to say is sooner or later there will be quads that will have way to much power to be in an atv. injuries will rise atvs will be banned.

Another issue is design. People are getting killed in Rhinos, which have a rollcage! You roll a huge monster utility, and you have racks and big fairly solid fenders to deal with, not to mention the weight.

If you roll a sport quad, as long as you avoid the handlebars, what do you have to deal with? Some soft flexible plastic....

Doesn't hurt to wear saftey gear as well!

The need for a 1000cc engine is here, ... now! It is needed in side by sides. How many of you own a Rhino 660 or 700? They are the all time dogs of the century in the performance department. A 1000 cc side by side would be just right in my opinion, but the whole side by side would need a redesign, and would need to be a side by side designed for the engine, and for improved handling. Lower, wider, more suspension travel, power steering like on the Grizzly, and a better roll cage, better doors, and at least four point harnesses from the factory.

I probably shouldn't mention that I will have a big 6" long scar on my right butt cheek for the rest of my life that is the exact inprint of a DS 650 foot peg.

What's the sense if all they ever do is sell us detuned models of the sizes we have now?

What I don't understand is why atv engines have such lower output per cc compared to sleds and motorcycles. As far as ATV's getting banned, maybe they need to change the laws or something so people who can't handle stuff can't ride the stuff. Never going to understand why people think they can just hop on a quad and ride like a pro or that they need the most horsepower when there first starting out. Ute's are being made way to fast these days for how well they handle, I really don't see the need for a 700+lb 4x4 quad to do anywhere near 80mph! When have you been going threw the woods or mud or anything and needed to go 80?? I wish people would be scared of fast quads like the must be of dirtbikes as you never see stuff like this with them.
