400cc out the door?
#1
Newdsowner how can you say that "I'm sorry but 400 size is out the door..." When the 250 two strokes and 400cc four stroke are the most popular race classes? As I understand it the AMA rules allow up to 440??cc in the 250cc two stroke class. Not to mention the seperate 400cc four stroke class. I know that racing is a small segment of the market but I don't think the 400cc machines are out the door. Plus with all the power you can get from the big bores that power is only usable in wide open riding areas. In the woods you can have all the power you want but you can only go so fast.
The Cannondale FX engine claims to make more horsepower than the Raptor and I've heard it will be coming with Ohlins suspension just like the MX. If this is all true this quad will dominate the MX races, and the woods, which has most of the sport segment covered. Granted it probobly won't compete with a hopped up DS or Raptor made for the dunes, but it probobly won't do too bad in the dunes either.

I think he means that the 400 has been done. People are starting to look toward the larger displacement fours-troke machines. "Bigger is better" is the way that most people feel. If another manufacturer builds 400s and competes in Honda's market, they are going to lose. When choosing between a Honda 400 and anybody else's 400, most will choose the Honda due to its reputation.
