what was the fastest sport atv ever built?

I will say that a stock banshee hardly makes any power at all, and neither does the Zilla, infact a stock 88' 250R is faster than both.
>>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>
banshee is quite corked up stock but sorry that banshee must have been running on one cylinder. ive owned them. ive raced them. i lived the era of quadzilla and banshee and 250r. there is no way a stock 88 250R is faster than a stock banshee, much less a quadzilla. recorded time tested top speeds have the quadzilla at 79+mph, the banshee (with the older, taller 22" rear tires; cant stress this part enough) @ 77mph and the trx250 @ 72-74mph. actually the tecate 250 and quadracer 250 are both faster than a stock trx. that's 20 years in the record books, not merely what i think is faster.
doesnt really matter to me what is faster; i look allot at handling. in that catagory the trx250r still owns it.

With the diversity of aftermarket parts, just about any quad can be the fastest. Stock for stock in about 1/8 mile drags that list is pretty close, but not in 100-200 yard drags. For me 0-60 is the most important because On tracks and in the trails that is were it counts.

That's right, handling is where it's at, you made my point for me. The Zilla handles with little confidence in stock form. All it takes though is getting the suspension dialed and way bigger front wheels and tires(came with little doughnut tires on tiny rims), then it will carve with any modern quad. The banshee needs some real coin before that thing can round a corner at speed, longer arms better shocks and some real tires. When the Banshee is done right they can rail and have that wild throttle response too.
As far as a true usable power test, that would be how freely the motor can rev up to overcome and obsticle and roll on power. For instance how quickly you can come out a corner so you can clear that 55 foot double, on on a trail coming around a hair pin corner only to find you have a 49 degree incline that goes up for like 200 feet.
I'm glad we can all agree that there is a different definition of fast for every rider, the drag racers, hill-shooters, MX, Mud, trail whatever you do, set the quad up for your skill, size and intended use and you can easily be that fast guy who everyone envies. If you ask my friend who rides a Banshee he will say my quad is rediculous and I say his is not so hot, but each quad is set up for the owner and no one else so of course the other guy is going to think your quad sucks, it's the wrong set up for them. This is another reason the sport is so fun The different set ups we see for each rider.
Stock is boring impersonal and unimaginative, which is interesting, because I see a lot of people that could be described as such riding such quads. Make it your own, not only will it look, feel, sound, and in the case of race fuel burners smell better, but it will be safer to ride, more comfortable and be some thing to take pride in.

yeah setup is key for whatever u are doing. im a drager/duner so hp is a big deal for me. weight also plays a big factor but sence im a duner i cant go super light weight parts. i would say my quad is pretty dang fast. not the fastest but i dont want that because those guys who are the "fastest" cant ride there bike to the hill. for shees to beat me they need to be atleast 10mil. exp in glamis because there are so meny whoops up they hill so my long travel suspension eats them up.

by any standard 102 is fast. Bigned1904, I like the reference to guys who can't ride their quad to the hill, Whne you get to that point, then you need to go to an actual strip, unless you have a second quad to actually ride.
I personally can't afford a drag ride, so I think it would be cheaper for me to get a circus cannon and fire myself out of it. Same effect but people watching should get a laugh.

Yep... people who haven't ever ridden a Polaris 400 just don't have a clue.
In a drag, a modded Polaris 400 is going to own pretty much OWN anything 700cc and under.
Mine is bone stock and it's nutz for a stock quad.... and I say that having owned all the "fast" quads. Zillas, Shees, 250's, etc... and it's gotta be in the top 3 on short drags. Longer drags, 3rd or less when top speed is reached and held a long period.
Put one paycheck into it and nothing stock would come near it, and most modded stuff wouldn't either.
I'll put it to you the way I put it to everyone else. I have a modded 400EX also, and I've been riding since after training wheels, even raced... and my first time rider wife can smoke me with it. I can ride the EX with everything I've got... front end in the air... and she just casually cruizes right away from me totally effortless... and I know she doesn't have the throttle pinned on it... all 4 wheels are on the ground the whole time. I have no chance of catching and passing her until she runs out of nerve.
The Polaris 400's are QUICK.

i dont know maybe in a couple hundred foot drag. but ive never been beat by one at olds hill in glamis. and i doubt everything under 700cc. there are stock bore (686cc) raptor 700 making 90hp with no n20 or turbo. i would love to see ANY 400 no madder how big of a bore it has beat it. and there are raptor running like low to mid 4s in the 300 foot drag. i dont know 2 much about 300 foot drag but i dont think a polars 400 can do much better than that. top dog shees are running low 3s.
and btw i dont think ive ever had a 400ex within 10 lenghs of me up olds. and that was one of those super tricked 400s.

Well, it is what it is, and it's not rocket science.
It's real easy to understand actually....
A stock Polaris 400 pumps out about 40hp out of the box.
That's for starters...
More important than that is it goes from idle to 40hp in a matter of a couple seconds.
That makes it really hard to compete with, regardless of the HP numbers.
It gets there so quick.
Past that, you have the Polaris CVT hooked up to it.
Yes, it could be better or equal if it had a gearbox and excellent pilot.
However, for what it takes, it gives a lot back.
Great traction, perfect gearing continously and seamless shifting.
But further more than that...
If tuned correctly it holds the 2-stroke in the powerband of the pipe continously.
So for all this quad is not (light weight, great handling, etc) it is VERY QUICK.
That I can't take away from it.
As for the Raptor 700... I love the quad except for the handling and feel. It's better than my Sport 400 but in the same neighborhood compared to something like a 400EX. I do however wish often that I had bought that GYTR 700 and worked on the handling. I think I'd be happier on it than my 400EX.
For quickness, the Raptor 700 isn't bad. I ran against some on the YFZ450. They could eventually run me down in distance on top end the way I was set up. But I would not put them in the class of quick the Polaris 400 2-stroke is. It's hard to get there on a 4 stroke... ask any MFG... took them years to get close with the 450's and nearly twice the displacement.
I'd say the Scramblers you have came across and ran against are the 500cc 4-stroke models.
Way less power and way more weight... utility quads pretty much.
200cc less and 200 lbs more than what you're riding.

I personally own banshee's, 250R's, tecate's, zilla, etc. and they are all stock. I sold the zilla simply because I did not like the vibration that the zilla produces.
Everyone always talks about how fast the lt500 is but honestly, my tecate 4 held it's own against it.
As far as anything that has officially been posted regarding "STOCK" bikes, the order goes like this:
1. Quadzilla 79mph
2. Banshee 77-78
3. Tecate 76 (only 1mpg slower than the banshee and that was questionable)
As far as all around performance, I would rather ride my Honda R any day over any of my other bikes. I like all my bikes but I always feel most comfortable on the R. It runs extremely good, handles good, and pulls the tires off the ground in just about every gear.
I think the OP was meaning 'bone stock' so officially, there is the top 3 of all time or at least until the 700's and 450's came out
