Top speed huh....mmm... my lil 300EX (pipe, filter, jetting mods) did an average of 59 miles per hour last weekend. Using a car as calibration the 300EX ran a couple of passes on the dry lake bed. Up wind it ran 58 mph and down wind it ran 61 mph. Not bad with the ITP 20" in back. Probably could get another 2 mph with the stock 22"ers or by gearing up. Two years ago when it was stock and on the same lake bed it ran an average of 56-57 mph. On the trails I can take on my buddy's Warrior, but he can hit 65mph easy when tapped out in sixth. grrrr..if only I could too. later!

Now most of us know that I don't understand why top speed matters to so many of us. How often do we ride full out anyway?

However I just thought I'd post this little note. This past weekend I went riding with a friend of mine who has a XR 600 dirt bike with a digital speedo. We found ourselves a long wash with only a few turns and we decided to see how fast my Banshee actually is on the top end. Well we made 3 passes down this road and pushed it wide open. The slowest run was 78 and the best run was 84. The 78 was the last run and she was pretty hot (it was 106 degrees in the desert) So with the mods I've got (since she isn't stock) I'd say 84 is the top end for my ride. Not to bad

Exactly what I was thinking the entire time reading this post. I ride woods a lot of the time, and if you plan on hitting max in there, say goodbye to your friends and family first. NOBODY hits near max through those trails, so I can't see why everyone is so interested in top speed. Do a lot of people here ride a big straightaway all day or what? Or on the highway to try to reach the speed limit?

I ignore top speed, and pay attention to what works best with handling, jumps, and woods racing. It's all right to be curious about the top speed and all, but we need to pay more attention to our own personal skills. "Can I keep a constant speed through the woods?" "How can I get through the whoops better?"...

I agree, personally i think a Honda 400EX with the right mods would work well as a woods machine. And when i get mine i don't plan on hitting top speed all the time either. I like the fact that if i need that speed to beet my buddies i can. But other than that i'll be keeping it in the 3rd and 4th gear range.

Interest in top speed is fine..This scenario might help, if I'm on a dry lake bed and like to drag race my buddies that maybe what I may like to do. I'll be interested with acceleration and top speed. If I'm on rocky, tight trails or woods riding, I will be more apt for low end - mid range acceleration. It's that easy and that's why threads like this exist...so people can rap about their same interest.

Then there is the king of speed, the old lt500r quadzilla. It is my buddies quad and we don't know exactly how fast it is but at the sand drags he was blowing away modified bansees, 250r's and so on.

Hey blaster, i think your electric clocker is a bit off, try 55-56 thats about how fast a stock blaster can get on a slight down hill with the wind behind the riders back.
