hi-performance quads : PART 2
#11
This is my opinion. A Sport 400 can beat almost any bike in a drag race but not on a track. It could get around in the trails but not like a 300ex. 300ex's are considerd by many the best trail quad around. Blasters suck and there is a readon they only cost $3000. A warrior and a 300ex make a very good arguement over which one is better. I have ridden almost every quad made many times.

i don't think that guy chris has rode anything except a 300ex. I don't think he know any thing about HP quads. Next week he will be saying the 300ex is the best quad ever made. The best HP quad ever mads is the 250r. The best one still made is the Banshee. And their is nobody that shouldn't belive me. The ex may handle good but it doesn't have the ballz that the shee' has. And a blaster isn't that crappy. Small is what they are. And are you saying that the HP quads RidE listed had "No flaws"? The tecate is one big flaw.
Nuff said about this.

Actually, "CHRIS" made a very good point. ANY quad can be a high performance quad with the right mods. And almost any quad can work well and be a "performer" with the right rider. All he is saying is that the Sport 400 is fast as hell going straight, but does not work as well in the woods/track as most other hi-perf. quads...

I don't know how you all ride or if you have really drag raced, but in my experience a sport 400L is no match for any of my 3 bikes, have raced at least 3 400L's of them all different years, different riders (like rider matters on a Polaris) and I must say, stock vs. stock, I really have to screw up not to absoultely spank the Polaris.
Also keep in mind that if the 400EX is a Y2K model, their throttle's are misadjusted from the factory only allowing 50~60% throttle opening, I have yet to see or hear of a Y2K 400EX not having this problem.

I truely believe that the sport 400 is truely a hp quad. When I went in to the market for another quad my dealer turned me totaly off of the 300 ex. They all said they really suck. Everyone else i talked to said to get a 400 sport 400EX or Banshee. I rode the 300 ex because i still thought I might want it. after one ride I jumped right off and will never get on another slow over priced 300 again. Now I believe that the 400 ex and the banshee will out run a stockl

You guys are obiously beginners. Sure a 400ex or a Banshee is cool if you are a miilionaire. And a Sport 400L is cool if you want to go in a straight line. But i like my 300 because it can handle better than anything i have seen. It is light wieght so you control it instead of it controling you. I also have a scrambler 400 which would waste any bike in a straight line. Sure it has a hole bunch of mods but i would definately consider it "high performance". It has 65 hp if you want to talk about hp quads. But I would take my 300ex with only a few mods over it anyday.

Chris everyone is entitled to their own opnions. Everyone will always like the quad they own the best. This is great to fight over though. Most of these guys don't enjoy a fight I for one love to argue though. And you made a good point about 400ex and the banshee being for the rich. I thin that if you ride a quad enough and learn it that thing will handle for you no matter what kind it is. I have had an old 250 four stroke honda now for 12 years. When I was much yonger I thought that thig was the greatest 4-wheeler ever I though it handled great.

Good morning boys. It's nice to see all of the replies to the post. First of all, "mxer". I have riden more quads than you have ever seen. I ride every weekend with a group that ranges between 30 and 40 people. And guess what? We all have different quads. Ranging from 4bys to sport rides. The EX is the 5th quad that I have owned in my life.(85' trx200, 91' 250x, 94' 300 4x4, 98' 3004x4, and 00' 300EX)Yes I'm a Honda man.
In this group that I ride with. There are Polaris, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda machines. And guess what. We all trust each other enough to let each other ride everyones machines. I have the only 300EX of the group. And you know what? Everyone always wants to ride it, because it kicks everything else's butt all over the trails. I ride my buddy's Sport all of the time. And you know what? It is a rail in a strait line. But doesen't have a chance on the trail or track.
ATV's stand for all terrian vehicale. So that's what I bought. Something that can go more places than a strait line.
I never said a Sport was an incapable machine. It doesen't handle like a Honda.
My definition of High performance is like this. Porche, corvette, etc. Things that go in a fast line and corner. And I don't see a Polaris Sport in that catagory. It can be, it you dismantle it like A400L. And make it into a rocket. But not in stock form.
And once again. The 300EX kills everything in the woods.

So you are saying that the sport is like a 70 Chevele 454. Goes straight in a line bu doesn't handel good. Well I for one disagree. I think my sport is more like a Viper, and your 300 like a Mazda miata, sure it turns sharp and handels good but is not very fast. On the trail I ride on speed is very important. We usualy ride in a creek bed. I always out run most anything in the creek. The honda 300 that my buddy has seems to mot have the power to paddle throught the deep sand.

I know what your talking about with the sand thing. The stock tires on an EX are junky.
Sounds like your riding is almost wide open, for long periods of time.
How are you in tight, twisty, woods trails. That's where the EX is at home. Then your friend will take over. It's all about where the machine is in it's element.
By the way, how old are you?
