05 400EX or 06 Outlaw 500
I am looking to purchase a used sport quad. I have a 4x4 but want a second quad to play in the trails and pits. I am looking to spend between $2500 and $3500. I want reverse so I am looking at 05 or newer 400EX , z400, Raptor and Outlaw.
I have heard the 660 Raptors are tall and a little tippy ( the 700 is out of my price range) I have also heard the z400 is more for higher speeds and not as good in the trails or on slower technical stuff.
Some of my trails will be tough for a 2 wheel drive to get through ( I usually ride the 4x4 on them ) so low end grunt on that stuff will be important.
I want something that is fun in the pits also, some jumping, wheelies, hill climbs riding the sides of the pit, etc. I have heard the 400ex is very solid in these areas. I have heard the Outlaw is a great racer but have not heard much about it as a general trail / pit quad.
Top end speed is not a big focus. Reliability is a big focus, which has me leaning towards the 400ex.
I have found a few 400exs 05 to 07 and a couple 06 Outlaw 500s.
I like the extra power of the Outlaw and the IRS looks nice, but not sure about jumping, reliability, etc. The Outlaws are also cheaper.
Any input / feedback on the pluses and minuses of these two, based on the topics I mentioned that are important to me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I was in the same situation as you. In fact, my wife bought me the predator for my birthday last year because I kept jumping my 800 and breaking stuff! It's hard to go from sport to utility and give up some air time. LOL!
I think the 400ex may be the one for you. It is a great trail worthy quad. I have not owned one or ridden one, but have friends with them. I did own a z400 and would recommend that as well. It has a great suspension and flies nice and balanced. It is very light, has reverse, and is fun to ride. If you do the intake and exhaust and drop a tooth on the front sprocket it will have all the low end grunt you need. I do like the outlaws, and the IRS would be nice on trails, but I think they are a little heavy and I'm not sure how reliable the first year or two was. The new ones rock, but cost much more, of course! Good luck!

I just bought the Outlaw, it was $600 buck less so I get to buy tires and rims now and a few other things. I think it was a better deal, and I know both quads will be great.
Just went on a quick 15 mile ride, it was great. Studded tires on the snow it was alot of fun. Very different than my 4x4, much more like the sled which is what I was looking for.
