I would of thought there would already be discussion on this topic, but I can't find much info. My question is, what were the different 2 stroke 4 wheel drive sport quads available? Also, how does each of their reliability/fun factor compare to the suzuki quadzilla and 2 stroke honda 250r's? I'm in the market and these are the quads I'm considering.

 

There were the Polaris Xplorer 250 and 400 which were 2 strokes. I had a 250cc Xplorer 4x4 that maybe did 42 mph on the top end. They also made a 400 2 stroke Scrambler that really moved. If I remember right they even put the 250 2 stroke in their 6x6 at one point. Don't know of any 4x4s beyond these.

 

The Scrambler 400 was really the one and only 2 stroke sporty ATV ever made, but if you really looked at that ATV it was basically a 400 Explorer without racks. low range.

I didn't see sporty. That limits you to the 400 Scrambler. It's the only 2 stroke 4x4 I can think of that is "sporty".

 

No real avantage to a two stroke anylonger. The 4 stroke 500 Renagade 4x4 would fly by a 2 stroke 400 Scrambler 4x4 nowadays if they ever raced. Even a 500 Outlander Utility would.

No 4x4 is really a sport ATV but the older Yamaha 350 4x4 Wolverine is still the lightest 4x4 ATV ever made and it even had racks.

I grew up on 2-stroke bikes. they were pretty high maintenance and tempermental.
personally- I would never venture the distance I do on my 4 stroke 4x4 - on a 2 stroke atv.
Too many bad memories of pushing my bike to the truck to replace the plug or get more 2 cycle oil- they got such poor milage also.

I wouldn't feel confident putting a 2 stroke atv through the swamps and punishment that I put my 4 stroke through.
Not saying people don't do it- but I wouldn't.
today's 4stroke atv motors are unreal! can-am's rotax motor is a flipping power house- along with the other brand name 4 stroke motors.

 

I was able to test drive both a quadzilla and a scrambler this weekend and out of the two, I liked the scrambler better. I can not think of a situation where I would be able to get up to its potential 80 mph!. The scrambler is fast enough for me and it even has 4wd. Getting a two stroke is just a novelty item for me since they don't make them anymore.

 

never heard of a scrambler that can go 80 mph...
would like to know who got it that fast- and who was clocking them because it does not have any mph gage.
I have an 08 scrambler 500 and it does not go near 80mph

 

Maybe he meant the Quadzilla 500 went 80, seriously doubt a Scrambler would do anywhere close to 80, unless it was in the back of a truck going down the Interstate !!

 

yeah, i meant the quadzilla went 80 mph. Anyone have an idea of what a scrambler 400 4x4 would be worth?
