So heres the story, i'm 14 and my girlfriend's family have their own bikes. Ive wanted a banshee for the longest time before i even met her but that changed when i went riding with her at sandfest.. They all have fourstrokes, and her dad let me ride his trx480.. Which was crazy fast since im 5'6, 126 lbs. either way, i wanted a 450.. Her dad works at a trucking company as a shop foreman, and he also has his own shop, garage thingy at his house and has tons of tools, so hes a mechanic and he works on all his bikes.. Well, his buddy asked him if (jim) could fix his kfx450r, he said there was a knocking noise from when the guy before him rebuilt it but it still runs, and jim says the guy who rebuilt it put something in wrong, the steering stem is broken and the bumper is bent, otherwise its bone stock.. But jim never looked at it because his friend didnt pay him. And so it sat in his shop for awhile. But then the guy needed to sell it to fix his boat. Anyway, the guy thinks the bike is **** up, so he told jim to sell it for $1500. Jim came to me saying he would have sold it to so,eome else for $2500 but hed do the $1500 for me and get into the motor for free. So i asked my moms boyfriend (my dad i guess) if he could loan me 1500. So he did. And were still in the buying process, the guy is going to mail jim the title for me and jim mailed the money to the guy.. But i just wanna know when its running, and the steering syem is fixed, how much more i would have to put into it to be able to sell it for atleast $5500 or $6000.. My sisters boyfriend also works at motosport hillsboro as the financing guy, so he can get me parts for dirt cheap, so what would i have to do to it? I want to be able to sell it, pay tony back how much he has put into it, and then buy another bike like a yfz or a trx..

Welcome to the forums.
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you'll never sell a rebuilt motor for that much. This is just a sample of what they're selling for on craigs list around here.
Get it fixed, keep it and ride it.

I'm just alittle sketched on the efi bikes because ive seen the power commanders go out in the middle of the dunes.. But is there anything i can do to it to sell it, pay tony back his money, and still have enough miney for another quad? My sisters boyfriend said his work would buy it from me, And he can get me a quad at the price that honda and yamaha and such sell to his dealership..

Just a few years ago they had a lot of leftover KFX and dealerships were selling brand new ones for $5500.00. I am with scootergptx, why not keep the Kawie? I prefer carb, but a stock efi going bad? That would have to be a rare occurrence I would think.

Aftermarket parts and modifications don't really add to the value of a quad. As with anything that depreciates, you would not be able to recover the money spent on the mods let alone increase the "value" of the quad to the point where you could sell it with enough left over to buy a brand new one. Personally, I'd keep the KFX, especially if you can get it for $1500 plus free labor to fix it up. If it's fixed right, you'll have a very nice quad for a screaming deal. Plus you'd know the important parts are fresh. However, if you sold the KFX for the going market rate in Oregon you'd have $2000 to $2500 left over after paying back the $1500. That won't buy you a new quad, and probably won't get you anything better in the used market than the KFX you just sold.
As for EFI, I've actually seen and experienced more carb problems in the dunes than EFI problems. That's not to say one system is more reliable than the other, just that failures can happen no matter what you choose.
