400ex newby
Hi, So I just got a 2007 400ex and I'm tearing it apart because I'm sure it hasn't been cleaned since 2007. Anywho, it has a K&N air filter on it with the outerwears cover. the previous owner drilled a bunch of holes in the airbox lid for more airflow apparently. My question is this: Do the plastic snorkel, airbox lid, and flimsey plastic tray under the gas tank really need to be there? It seems like a bunch of clunky stuff that could be eliminated. What are your thoughts on what else isnt really necessary on these quads. I already removed the emergency brake and clutch lever for a protaper clutch lever.
Thanks! I'm looking forward to learning a bunch from you guys.

Hey, I actually have the same bike. I upgraded to a Trx 450er now but still have my 400ex. Yes, you need to keep the snorkel in the air box and airbox lid. From friends and people online i know way to many people that had tried this and needed lots of repairs, a couple guys sucked in and and dirt from no lid and needed a full engine rebuild. What plastic tray are you talking about? You can remove the headlight if you dont use it. Theres not a lot that can be removed on a 400ex without having something to worry about, id stick too cleaning it and giving it aftermarket parts.
