Get with the times son 4 strokes are getting faster and faster. It wont be long till you are no longer looking over your shoulder for them but ducking a thumper exhaust blast.

My son and I are new to the scene, but I own a Scrambler 400x. It has a two stroke motor and 4 wheel drive. It is an excellent machine. plenty of power and a great ride. I know we all have our preferences, but I'm LOVING mine.

I just sold my lt250r for a 400ex because I don't have the time to keep up with the maintence (mine was modified which made it less reliable and more maintence). Also, I like the electric start and straight gas. I really like two strokes though.

I've got to go with 4-stroke. They're a lot more versitile, and rider friendly. I when I'm just out pleasure riding (especially woods), sometimes I just want to cruise and not work my a$$ off. 4-strokes definately the answer there. Plus the big bore (400+) thumpers can really shredd right along with the 2-strokes anyway.

I like them both. Theres nothing like the throttle responce of a 2 stroke. But theres nothing like the reliability of a 4 stroke. If you want to cruise and run something hard a 4 stroke is the way to go. The 2 strokes don't like to cruise too well, they just love to foul plugs.

Both engines have their pros and cons. I would have went with a 4 stroke, but I got such a good deal on a used Explorer, I could not pass it up. I wanted to get back into atv's, I hadn't owned any since the early 90s when I had a 200x and a tecate 250 3 wheeler. Some day I may want to up grade my Explorer, but right now it is good enough to just run out to the fish house.

I do have to agree with Anchordave, I don't see the 2 strokes being around much longer. Up here in MN the 4 stroke boat motor is really being pushed and now they are really starting to push the 4 stroke snowmobile. If fact Yamaha just came out with a wild 1000cc 4 cyl 4 stroke Sled. I know this is not a snowmoblie forum, just want to make the point that the manufactures are really starting to pump out some wild engines.

Wille1, That engine sure looks impressive, spent quite some time checking it out on the Yamaha web site. Hopefully some day I will be able to see one out out on the trail someday.... That is if if ever snows up here in MN again LOL. I guess thats why I decided to get a quad. A guy has got to do something in the winter. Everyone have fun out there.
