Default approximate Power-toWeight Ratios of all the Sport Quads !!!

A little thing I noticed about a couple of the bottom dwellers on the list. While I had my 11 hp Quadsport 230, with my 235 lb butt on it, I handily beat a 13 hp 250ex with a significantly lighter rider in a drag race and top speed. Could this be gearing? Maybe the 250ex autoclutch and shaft drive suck up a lot of hp? Hmmm. Inquiring minds want to know.

The tecate 4 on the list is too heavy. 3&4 wheel action may '88 250 shootout claims a dry weight of 328. My owners manual says 149kg...what ever that is pounds...

BTW, the same mag puts the quadracer at 325 and the 250R at 339.5.

Either way the quadracer is a couple of lbs lighter the T4 and the honda is a lot ever...it feels like it too when you ride one!

rework your numbers. the T4's ratio is A LOT higher.

another thing, the 250R stock RW HP is 28 not 31. I think it's 33 or 34 at the crank. I don't know about the 'racer but the T4 is like 34 or 35 stock and 42 at the crank. Trust me on those. I own them and I learned those numbers a long time ago.

I would check the manufacturer's sites on any quads still in production for a dry wieght. Some of the numbers look a little off and I noticed in the new DW they claim on wieght in the article and then a different wieght in the spec sheet so I would be leary of magazine numbers. Also, are these dynajet numbers? Some of them look higher than what I've heard for rwhp.

I also seen somewhere last year that the 2002 Raptors had some changes made for durability that made the bike stronger but brought it's dry wieght up to 406 Yamaha's site doesn't reflect this change though.

If the DS650 does come in at 430 pounds for 2004 like bomb wants it will climb quite a ways up that list.

60 pounds is alot to shave off the DS. That would be great, but I don't see that happening.

Supposedly they already have 30 pounds shaved off and all of the ideas for how they are going to get the other 30 pounds off.

Default approximate Power-toWeight Ratios of all the Sport Quads !!!

I purchased a 2003 Srambler 500HO last august. Bone stock it weighs 574 pounds dry and dynos 38 h.p @4500 rpm. After adding a White Bros. E-series pipe, dyno jet stage 2 kit, and custom air box mod it dynos 47.2 h.p. @ 4750 rpm. For other Scrambler 4-stroke owners the worst thing you can do is add any kind of clutch kit!!! I had a h.p.d. kit installed and lost all low end torgue. My 400ex and z400 buddies will just leave me sitting on the line. If you had about a 1/2 mile then you would maybe catch them. The stock clutch is still the best for the Scrambler 500HO. Dynojet still doesn't offer th stage 2 kit so here is what myself and their engineer came up with. Use the air needle out of a Magnum 425kit c-clip on the third notch 165 main jet and turn the fuel screw all the way in and then out 4 turns. You will have to drill a 5/32 brass plug out to get to the fuel mixture screw. Drill slow, and be careful!!! You then cut out a 2inch by 3inch hole right behind the air snorkel. Cover it with an outerwares pre-filter to keep out dust and water. I velcroed mine on. With this set-up I can beat mildly modified 400ex and z-400 by 1 and 2 bike lengths respectively in a 300ft drag race. So there you go. Who ever says a 500HO engine is dog is very sadly mistaken.
