For a rear shock adjustment, when the back wheels have a tendancy to bounce and smack the seat against your butt, does that mean the rear compression is too stiff, or the rebound is tighter than a snakes pu**y?
Also, if the back end rips back and forth, left right during the whoops, same question, compression or rebound?

If you have never set the rear spring and you are out of the manufacturers 150-180lbs ideal weight, then you will need to adjust it. When adjusting rebound and compression, start on a familiar course with both set full. With each lap or two, back them out a click at a time, until you find a comfortable setting for your riding style. Your problem could be either, so spend the time to set it properly.

See http://off-road.com/atv/suspension/shockadj.htm I would suggest starting from scratch!
