i love my warrior i have 2 ones a 2000 with mods and one is a 2003 stock and i love um both didnt trade the 2000 off cuz didnt give me enough and i like the power of it but they made me a deal on a 2003 the warrior has a lot of potential for power. the stock warrior is just as good at my 2000 with suppertrapp pipe k&n filter and jet kit and razrs rear tires... the big thing is how tall are u? if your over 6ft get the warrior if shorter get the 300ex my 2 cents

I have owned both. Don't get a Warrior under any circumstances!! They handle big and heavy, and if Yamaha has any sense they will discontinue the old fossil when the new 400(???) comes out.
The 300 is the ultimate (for a stock bike) in trail bike handling. It is medium size and extremely agile (as opposed to the clunky Warrior). In stock form the power is mild, but it mods up pretty well. Have you considered the 400 class machines???

Maybe you should ride the two and judge for yourself, I love my warrior. I have ridden a 300ex and thought it felt kinda bouncy in comparison, maybe the extra weight of the warrior is the culprit. I also think that the reverse shifter on the 300ex is a contortionist nightmare.

In my personal expierience I would get a warrior.Yes the 300ex has better handling, but if you get aftermarket tire like razrs. Then you will have a very good quad in close trails and have great acceleration on the open areas.I know i have a 2002 warrior with razrs front and back and it kills my friends 300ex with the same tires.I live in a very similar as you, and it does marvelous. Also when you
feel the need for speed there are lots of hop-ups available for the warrior and give you pretty well power gains. The only downfall is that they are hard to sell in my opinion.Best of luck with wichever you get.
