I guess I am in the 1% The belt drive is more in the line of 20%-30% power loss. Now that is in stock form for the Polaris. Proper clutch mods and a good quality belt which slips less will yield better power transfer and less loss.

And also to add, the whole reason behind the developement of the CVT was to keep power a constant when the load increased such as when a snowmobile encountered a hill or heavy powder snow. If it was a manual tranny the sled would slow down when shifting or coming off the power curve under a load and it would get stuck.

There has been mention that the snowmobile belt lasts, so this one will also. But the snowmobile has larger clutches, better cooling, and a larger belt as well. All that makes a big difference

Shotgun, you said there is not a belt made to take a huge power to weight ratio. What would you call a 500lb sled with a 325HP 1500cc triple?

Subaru did make a belt drive car one time. Not sure what I think of that.LOL. Bubba

pushin, My buddies I ride with own DS's(BAJA, the most upgradable stock model) and I have a raptor. When we were both bone stock we were dead even while racing. Futhermore, we had both of our bike dynoed at dynojet with the same mods and he dynoed at 41hp and I dynoed at 43hp. The bike are about the same. With the same sand paddles it is a matter of holeshot for the outcome of who wins. Mag HP ratings don't mean anything.

When I had my Raptor I raced my buddy's Raptors all the time at the dunes. My raptor was stock with the exception of the k and n filter and I was dead even and beat piped raptoars all the time. Two of my friends have 2002 models and we beat them every time with our 2001s. As far as my group of Raptors DS650 are tough to beat. modded Ds 650's even tougher to beat. As far as the V700 I don't know yet its not broken in yet. but as far as I have stretched it out so far I think its a contender with other 4 strokes, maybe a chance with stock banshees but who rides one thats stock.

Hey Bubba, can I be the other 1%, no wait now that would be 2%. To add to the better cooling of sleds, you also should note the ambient air temp when a sled is normally operated is much lower than running a quad in summer dune heat. I still don't think it's an issue of the belt so much as the size and weight. Not a big fan of ATV Television, but they did do their own little test last night. A certain mass, when vectored in one direction, is gonna take a certain amount of energy acting on it to change that direction. Like Mr. ATV TV said himself, he'd found a perfect older guys cruiser. It just looked like this thing was laboring through the maneuvers. Just my 2c.

Bubba!

How did a guy from Arkansas get to know so much about sleds????????????????

With the CVT, you have a ton of tuning possibilities with the helix, weights, spring compression rates, Team roller secondary ect, ect.

The idea is to get to the powerband quickly and stay there all day. I am waiting to see some dyno charts then get a tach and dial her in.

I have the same Sport Quad Rules book and there is no limit to the tranny technology that is acceptible!!!!

As far as hill climbing, or in sand, or top speed I can't say... But in a drag race I constantly beat my buddies Rappy. My Force is stock, and he runs jetted and with a Yoshimura pipe. The Rappy is so light, that he has to fight the front end to keep it down.
