Default Help a Newb: Raptor 660 vs KFX 400

sup, this is my first post on this forum. im not sure if this is in the right section in the forum, but here goes.

ok,
i want to get a quad. i was decided for a raptor but i recently started reading about the KFX/LTZ 400.
im kinda decided for a raptor but i recently started to like the 400's too.
i like the raptor because:
power
suspension
aftermarket support
can find one used anywhere

but i also have heard that there have been transmission problems with them(something about 2nd gear??). my friend had one and he said to get ready to keep up with the repairs if i get one. so that kinda turned me away.
i really like the bike, except i dont know what to look for in a used one.

should i get a 2002 raptor so i dont have to worry about the tranny problems?

as for the kfx/ltz 400's:
from what i have read in Dirt Wheels, this is one badass bike! they voted it the best sport quad out there. supension is awesome, and its a great bike for all around riding. i havent heard anything about the power on these things, but i dont suppose a 400 would be weak.

so i guess the questions i need you guys to help me answer are:

what would you choose: raptor or kfx/z 400?
what should i look out for in each bike?
i plan to buy used, is this a wise choice?
which is the better bike(honestly)?

sorry for the long post and thanks for your help.

Default Help a Newb: Raptor 660 vs KFX 400

ive heard a lot about how much the raptor breaks. the kfx 400 is a nice quad. it has alot of power for a 400, and can outrace a raptor any day. the kfx handles great and goes around 74 mph stock. the raptor is also a bit tippy in the turns, so if i were you i would get the kfx 400.

For fast trail riding or any type of racing (other than a straight drag race) get the Z400 or KFX

Raptor, 2002 or newer.

Especially if you plan to mod it. (cheaper to make the Rap fly)

Nothin against the 400,,,,,,just a little underpowered. (you asked "rap or Z400)

You wont be disappointed for dunes and trails......

plenty of power for the sand,,,,,nimble and narrow enough for trails.

Good luck
Mark

Wow, this was exactly my situation except I'm 23 and I tip the scales at a whopping 180lbs.

My friends and I all agree that the Raptor is more likely to tip than the Z400(KFX400) or even a 400ex.

From my experience, the Z400 responds to mods very well. I've read that the Raptor responds equally as well because both ATVs are starved for air in their stock form.

For power, the Z400 has plenty for trails and the sand dunes (assuming you don't want to keep up with 2-strokes in the sand drags).

Because our situations are so similar (especially little experience) and you'll mainly be trail riding, I suggest getting the KFX400 (or Z400 is you like Suzuki colors). I really don't care for the way the Raptor feels in turns plus I didn't think it was worth the extra $$. The KFX400 is very forgiving when it comes to suspension and landing awkwardly.

wow...its even so far.

i went to my local dealership today, i sat on the raptor for a while. damn it fits me nice.

i also sat on the predator 500. it feels kinda awkward , like the shifter and brake pedal are not in the correct place. and it seems like i have to sit on the gas tank.

im leaning towards the raptor so far, can anyone tell me more about the tranny problems.
thanks.
